Hello first time post

Hello everybody, my name is corona. i own a 1997 protege DX (stripped down model) with 85+k miles and today my mother wanted to go to church this morning, and the car would not shift like, i would step on the brake pedal, and i couldn't get the button to press in and shift. i live in chicago, and its Fuc*ing cold in here my guess is..........Linkage? or some kind of switch? Has anybody ever seen or heard of this problem? Thanks for any help

the park/nuetral safety switch may be damaged. You'd to remove the center console to look at everything to see what the problem is. IT may just be frozen and some wd-40 could fix it for you.
