Question Theft and Mazdaspeed?

Hi,

I've been a Honda guy for a long time, but my 99 SIR was just stolen and I'm tired of being paranoid about my car. So no more Honda for me. Anyways, I was looking at the Mazdaspeed as a replacement. I know its an awesome performer, but I'd like to know how popular it is with car thieves? Is there an immobilizer on the car? I don't want to buy another nice car just to have it stolen again and unfortunately, moving out of this ratty neighbourhood isn't an option.

Thanks!!

Good links.. and like the links say, parts are very interchangable making it worth stealing a Honda. Are Mazda's like this too? Can I get a Mazdaspeed engine and drop it into a regular Protege? How about an immobilizer?

Thanks everyone! I'm going to view 2 MSP this weekend!

I doubt that Mazdas are anywhere near as attractive to theives as Honda Civics are. The reason is that the vast majority of cars that are stolen are taken for the value of their parts. That's why the most stolen cars in America are the Accord and Camry - the market for the parts simply mirrors the volume that the cars were sold in. Bumpers, fenders, and other often replaced body parts are especially valuable. For a Protege, the original sales volume was quite low, and thus there is a much smaller market for stolen parts. Also, a stolen Mazda tends to stick out like a sore thumb - there aren't that many on the road, so if one is reported stolen, the police are a lot more likely to notice it passing in traffic.
