Theft in Calgary?
Hey.
I'm planning on upgrading the audio system for my 02 Protege. I'm on a limited budget so I am planning on upgrading the head unit, then the speakers. I've been hearing alot about thieves stealing head units from cars. Is this something I should be worried about in Canada (Calgary)? What is the best way to prevent theft?

Calgary (or anywhere...) - STEALTH is the answer. If you can resist the urge to buy the 'steal-me stickers' (ROCKFORD/FOSGATE, KENWOOD, etc), if you can cover the subs ( i keep the hatch cover closed), put amps under the seats, use stock speaker grills/locations, and keep the head unit hidden (harder)...
You can't tell looking at my car that i have a 'pretty decent' system...
...and do not cruise into the 'hood stereo pumping, bass bumping if you can avoid it.
stealth!

This may sound cheap...but what do you think about sticking a small sticker on the window saying something like "protected by so and so theft system" without having to actually install the alarm? Do you think this would deter the theif from trying to break in? The reason I'm asking this is because I have a few of these stickers lying around.
I never knew theives stole speakers and amps. I thought it was just headunits.

Weeellll... 'Protected by [reputable alarm company] ' Says which method to use to defeat it (you told them what to watch out for...).
'Protected by Fake Sticker' is also known to the common/dedicated thief and he knows there is NO system to worry about! A simple bang on the door or rocking the car followed by silence tells him everything.
I would recommend - getting the removable faceplate head unit AND wiring a small flashing LED light to the dash - let 'em wonder.... It may deter a few thieves who will look for an easier 'mark'...
Park in well-lit areas by busy entrances (car or people traffic) and hide everything in the car - no Bling visible!
