Talking snow/winter tires

yep...winter is coming up and i need snow tires. i've been taking sharp turns and launching my 03 pro all summer and it kinda weared out my stock tires a little. The other day it snowed and the road was covered with ice, i hadta drive to school in that weather and i tell u, i wasn't easy at all. slipping and sliding. hahaha...

so what brand tires should i get... i might wanna order some from tirerack.com but i dont wanna pay for shipping =/ . budget is also limited, just bought an audio system and put it in... = D

im a newbie when it comes to tires...so any help will be appriciated

hmmm, well if cheap is your only concern, I've heard the Wal-Mart cheapies aren't that bad, but I'd hardly recommend them except that they would be better than no snow tires in ice/snow.

Try the Kumho KW-11, it's an excellent tire with an excellent price. Be sure to get a full set of 4, since unequal traction will cause horrible spinouts.

Another way to go cheap is use 185/65R14's on a 3rd gen (including the P5 - yes, they will fit).

I just got my new snow tires from tirerack. Blizzak WS-50. Shipping from Indiana to Erie, PA was $33 for UPS ground for 4 tires (that's tires only, no wheels). I paid $87 each through tirerack. Considering that one store here wanted to charge me $100+ for each tire if I went through them I feel good about my purchase. Plus if I'm not mistaken, these Blizzaks are Q-speed rated, so that's roughly 114 mph? They seem to be performing well so far. They handled well at 75 mph on the short interstate run on the way home from work. I purchased a cheap pair of snow tires about 3 weeks ago and they completely changed how my Protege handled ( meaning bad ) so you might want to be careful if you go for savings. Stay away from GT Champiros!
