Questions about turbo and protege lx

I am REALLY planning on buying one. And want to do a turbo install, etc. Is a apex afc and bcfpr enough? Or do i need to go full stand alone? I remember once reading that the afc will work but at WOT it'll go to the ecu fuel map. Which in plain english means, say goodbye to motor. LMK

You don't need full standalone, but you really SHOULD at least get the ECU that came with the GTX engine. It'll work with the NA ECU, but it's not recommended.

Hmm... new harness though? Or will that have to go too? BTW i am planning the 200hp whp that i heard is possible on the stock block max till i can get it built up, etc. SO GTX ecu and afc and bcfpr basicly?

No, stock block is great... The internals on the BP are top notch. You should run into tranny problems before and engine problems. I think the tranny is pretty good up to around 300ft/lbs.

Also plan on getting a new clutch. Like an ACT or something similar.

Back to you actual questions, I *think* you'll need the harness for the GTX ECU, but I'm not certain.

200whp should be very easy... Actually, turboing the NA engine correctly tuned should be around 160-180 whp stock because of the higher-flowing head (I pulled those numbers out of my ***, by the way, just a guess). Up the boost a little bit, keep it tuned properly, and you'll be hitting 200whp without problem.

Also look into higher flow injectors... Not sure at what point you should start using them, but since it seems you want to go higher that 200whp, bigger injectors would be a good idear.

Hmm from what i recall the lx trannys will do fine even on a 12 sec car Ie 400 hp or so Umm well intially 200 max whp (i'd be glad if i was even close on a stock block) and then later bigger injectors ,etc. is a given. ACT clutch will probably be even before the turbo goes in as most of the lxs will have over 100k anyways so new clutch is a good idea BUT i think the gtx ecu and harness go together unfortuntly I hope somebody can clarify. But thats why i mentioned afc. Harness is a big pain. Stand alone is just money and alot easier i think.

the pro lx injectors are only good for 150 whp

no need to get a gtx harness, im running the n/a harness with some splicing, ill have to see what corksport did, something with a tps wire cause gtx tps is 4 wires rather than 3, and 2 custom wires are going into ecu, thats it. i should run those wires down one day

Braden has done a lot of work on 1st gen turbos... I believe his last project was the buildup of the NA BP with the haltech and the goodies... That's when he ran the 13.8 or 13.4 or something. He had the car really, really stripped, too.. heheheh

He's also tuned some guy's EGT in pittsburgh and had really good results... I don't remember much about the setup though but I knew they ran really well at the track at ludacris ammounts of boost
