Smile HiBoost car at 1/4 mile

We took our project car to California Speedway yesterday night to test it in the ¼ mile for the first time. We had a hard time with a silicone hose that connects from the turbo outlet to the first intercooler pipe. It was getting loose since we have a prototype pipe without any beads. We ran three times, but only the first time we were able to go boosted all the way.
The car ran 14.0 at 12 PSI. The final speed was 106 MPH.
Since it was the first time we raced the car I know we can do better. The tires broke loose all thru first gear and after shifting to second it was really fast.(2.4 at the 60 foot mark)

The second time we did a lot better. It grabbed better, shifted to second and we thought 13s for sure. When shifted to third, the damn hose came loose and it was N/A to the finish line. At that run we did 2.2 at the 60 foot and at the 1/8 mile mark it was 2 tenths quicker. Still was a 14.7

The car felt really fast. In fact it was the fastest among the turbo imports. There were many WRXs, Neon SRT-4s, Eclipses and even a turbo Matrix.

The closest was a WRX with many mods at 14.1 @96MPH. The SRT-4 had 16.5 pounds of boost, slicks and did 14.1.
The eclipse did mid 14s and the Matrix high 14s.

We raced our car with the OEM tires. Just the way it comes from the factory. 2.25 cat back Bosal exhaust and an ACT clutch with organic disc. Stock internals, stock injectors, stock fuel pump and pressure. The boost was set at 12 Pounds.

I know that we will improve the times next time with some practice. We will race it again in two weeks with the same setup to see what we can do. After that we may use better tires or maybe some slicks.

I will let you know then.

Here are the results:

R/T .553
60 ft 2.401
1/8 9.379 @ 83.20 MPH
¼ 14.049 @ 105.99 MPH

Ok..... not to say you are wrong but those other cars must have had 13 year olds driving them.

The SRT-4 in stock form does a 14.2, and at over 1bar and w/slicks I know it would do much better than that.

The WRX in stock form runs a low 14 as well, so one with "many mods" must not have been trying very hard.

Well, you still have to be a good driver to get down the track. And a won't run extrodinary times unless you launch it like it wasn't yours.

Awesome runs, though, that's great!

i've seen SRT-4 magazine times that hit 14.6. Keep in mind magazine times are done with professional drivers. You have no idea what the track and atmospheric conditions were when the hiboost guys went out. Launching a car properly requires a sheer hatred for your clutch and transmission and most people don't do it.

With a better launch the hiboost P5 should run about 13.6 ET. A 106 mph trap is very fast!

Those silicone hoses are shiety...we had to take ours off and go back to the fugly black ones that won't blow off under boost!

One of the hardest things for a fwd turbo car is to actually get the power to the ground. My turbo Focus ran a best of 13.4 spinning and spinning and spinning...it even trapped at 110 mph, which is definitely good for a 12 second ET. Perhaps it's time to change from drag radials to slicks

With my Wagnermotorsports.net kit I ran a 13.858 at 10lbs of boost, water methynol injection, 340cc eclipse injectors, control by Apexi AFC, and 105 Sunoco race gas, 60 was 2.142, 1/8 was 8.979, MPH was 101.56. I barly beet my Dodge Ram Hemi by half second.
