cheaper then dirt

go to ur local hardware store and get some 2-3 inch pvc tube. u can go bigger then the AEM intake tubes. i did it and it cost 10 bucks and its 3 inch wide while AEM is 2 inch. then paint it any color u want. if u were a stoner u could come up with ideas like this.

IMO you shoulda kept the 2" AEM pipe, as 2.5" is ideal for the Protege. 3" is just too big for any decent gains. (i mean an intake alone doesn't offer much, so you better get all you can, right)

the 3 inch accutally gave it 3 hp over the 2 inch. it makes intake like ram air(more air fed then it supposed to have) so thats why i used it. dont worry i tried with 2 inch

as soon as i find the dno sheets form that day i send them to u or somthing but belive me try it and you ll see too dont worry ive just been working on cars 19 years (2 years in wyotech) so i probably dont know that much about cars.

yeah, but i'd take the advice of two upstanding members of the protege community that have specialized in the Protege alone, have become a reliable source/authority for first gen protege modifications over you, so personally, lick my nuts, they're gettin kinda sweaty. and i doubt you've taken the time to buy the adapters, clamps, fittings, and pipe to test this theory of yours out on a protege. theoretically, first of all, it would probably cost you way over $150 bucks for you to do this properly for both sizes, second of all, we say 2 and 2.5 because it's been tested...this is what works, gives decent gains and produces consistant results across the whole torque band and delivers a consistant amount of air flow all around, and third of all, well, i don't like you, so before you go and tout your experience on cars around, kiss my *** and then we'll talk. sorry guys, i'm just pissed off tonight.

ps. by the way, daryl has made and has produced custom intakes for first gen proteges and has auto-crossing experience in his car.. just a side note

2" will offer better low end power, where 3" will offer better top end power, but 2.5" is the nice balance between the two.

It's not just the volume of air, but also it's velocity.

so, instead of buying a new intake hose, I can get 2.5" PVC pipe, and it will work just as well?

I'm putting a cone style filter on the car, and my intake hose is cracked, so should I go that way?

wouldnt pvc be not a good idea cause its platic? just letting people know that if you create alot of heat under then egine that plastic probably isnt the best route to go..

PVC Worked fine on our V8 Firebird which creates a lot more heat under the hood than the pro.




skr33t... 3" will reduce throttle response also.

How much is a 2.5" U bend about 2 feet in length? I want to make a cold air extension for the pro.
