I lived in Calgary for the last 5.5years and got to know quite a few places there but, now that I am back here: What and where is a good place to eat? I like all nationalities, except Amishian.

 

Breakfast at the Zen Cafe in Kitsilano. But, darnit, I'm in Calgary

Very good Meditarenean food

 

Oh ... too many good places ... don't know where to start ...

After spending months working in Vancouver (i.e. staying at a hotel & eating out every day), here are my picks:
Breakfast - Elbow room, Solly's
Cool casual hangout - Wild rice (martini!), Lucy Mae Brown, Bin 941 (wine!)
Japanese (all-you-can-eat) - Kamei (must be the one at Cambie & Broadway), Tanpopo on Denman (yummy white tuna sashimi!), Shabusen (I have not tried it but came highly recommended)
Note: I must say that contrary to popular belief, I find Tojo grossly overprice & quality of sashimi / sushi not much better than other good sushi places!
Japanese 'pub grub' - "Garlic" (Robson near Denman), Gyoza King
Japanese noodle - Kintaro
Ice cream - La Casa (must sample the strange flavours like garlic, balsamic vinegar, ...), Mama's on Denman
West coast - C, Rain City Grill (amazing wine picks!), Diva
Chinese noodle - Shaolin, Ho Tak Kee (Broadway & Kingsway)
Note: Coming from Toronto, I find the quality & selection of Chinese food much better there, so not many Chinese food recommendation.
Greek - Stepho's (mmm ... yummy grill lamb!)
Mexican - small take-out on Commercial Dr right next to an Indian take-out place
Afghan Horseman also comes highly recommended
