telegraph races...
last week i was at the telegraph races. everyone was having a good time. ****...i even saw this one dude on a crotch rocket race a guy and beating him doing a wheelie..insane?? anyhow my friend in his o2 civic with a cold air intake vs my bone stock 99 protege lx...1, 2, 3...going,going,....gone. hehe totally smoked him. then i was in another race when this 89 nissan 240 sx pulls up. i was like" dude you're gonna kill me". 1,2,3. me and the 240 sx racing and next minute he's gone..dam nissan's? so later we're watching all these sweet *** cars when a primered civic hatch-back(total sleeper) vs a 2004 mustang GT. lets just say that ford was definietly put to shame..that freaking civic was one fast puppy!! now comes the comes the buzzkill. i'm about to leave the races when 20 cop cars show up and baracade everyone in there was like 75-100 cars in this little one-way strip. every car got a 6 point ticket for drag racing including me, my brother, and my friend. yah..that was really gay. so screw the races i am definietly never going there again

...this, after I posted all that stuff about cheap and easy racing in Michigan? If you think your Protege is all that and a bag o'chips, then I guess you wouldn't have a problem showing up at Milan with it. Thirty five bucks to race in the brackets. And, there isn't a primered Civic in the world that can beat some of the cars that run there. I can think of a certain all-glass bodied ****** that hits over 200 in the quarter there. After you see that ****, you'll realize that playing in the street is for boys...
As for me, I am going to drop my cash on running at Waterford Hills on July 9 (open track day). I might not be the fastest out there, but I will promise you this:
1) I won't get a ticket
2) I will have it wide-open far more often than you could hope for on Telegraph Road
3) The pavement is smooth, curvy, and sweet (as opposed to straight and potholed, as it is on Telegraph road)
4) I will able to play with the best asset any Protege has... its excellent handling.

...precisely why I say head to the racecourse, take in some curves, and enjoy the sweet handling of our rides. Frankly, any FWD car (whether its a Civic or a Protege) is at a serious disadvantage in a drag race. Sure, there are 8 and 9 second professionally-built and raced fwd compacts out there. But, it is a lot cheaper/ easier to go that fast in a RWD car. Hell, I assume that most of us here are smack dab in the 16+ second range! Keep in mind a lightly breathed on SRT-4 Neon will do the 1/4 in 14 seconds... and that is a 230-hp car!
I also have to agree with Matty on the RX7. RWD and relatively powerful (by Mazda standards), it's no champ on the dragway. Again, enjoy it for what it is (a kick-*** sports car).

yea i had my share of racing on the streets. i'm not ever going to do that sh*t anymore. i definietly learned my lesson. but anyhow i'm really trying hard to get some pics for you guys to see. i just finished the bodykit today. that dam thing took me and my boy 17hrs to cut, grind, fit,and screw. the reason why it took so long is because of the front end damage. but now i have to fabricate my oem seat brackets onto my APC racing seat because the oem seat is like 2" longer...yah just what i needed is more work!! Also i'm researching on how i can convert my auto pro to a manual!! thats ganna be some work! probably get a miata or speed6 engine and even stick a turbo kit on the new engine. not only that, i want to do all the work. i'm most likely have to buy like a $500 cluncker as a 2nd car? i'm sure you guys can give me some pointers!!

See you guys are lucky we do not have any road coarses here in AL (drag strips galore). I would love to hit a road coarse but do not have the oppertunity to drive out of state I get the urge to run so I love drag strips especially going up there with friends that have modded cars as well, its always fun to run your friends in a legal enviroment if you ask me and not to mention it is a great way to see how much you modding has paid off...

bwahahaah, I never understood mazda making a car that is .1s faster than their best selling V6 5spd car. That just plain sucks. I was all excited about it also. I was telling Miller how I ws goingt o buy one when it came out ....and then they released the specs......bleh.

Yeah, we were both excited about the AWD turbo setup... till we found out how weakass it was. And how not-goodlooking it was. I was saddened. I'd take a v-6 wagon over the MS6 anyday.
