Well, I'm really bored at work here, and I saw a couple new posts in the Racing Stories forum. So I figured I'd post this story. I guess if I do, it'll finally leave my mind or something.

Anytime I see that forum, it always reminds me of this one night about 9-10 months ago when I was driving home from the mall after seeing a movie. It was about 12:30 or so at night. There is this road that I usually take to go home from the mall that has a number of long straightaways between lights. I really wasn't doing anything cept driving home. I'm a bit of a lead foot when I drive normal (I spend too much time driving that all I want to do is reduce the time I spend driving, therefore I acclerate fast and usually speed providing there are few or no other drivers on the road).

There was this Stanza or late-80's Maxima (or some car that had a similar body) that was on the left of me. I never really did see what kind of car it was.
Anyway, I was stopped at the light and as soon as it turned red, I pressed on the gas. I guess he thought I was trying to race him from my having left the light as soon as it turned green. I think I was a hundred feet or so past the intersection when the guy came screaming by. He only had one passenger in there, and I had my girl with me. I thought "WTF is with this guy? Oh. Wait. He must think I tried to race him at the light. Ha ha. What a dick. Okay. Let's see what this ******* has. " Course, I not once looked at either of the two in the car. My girl usually is the one that looks at people that try to race me. So, the next light came up, we both stopped at the red light, and I just prepared for the green light. She said they were looking over and what not. As soon as it turned green, I floored it. We were neck n' neck. Just before I shifted, his front bumper was near the back of my front tyre. After I dropped it into second, I started to pull away. By the time we got up to 60-70 (I usually don't look at the speedo and only glanced), he was a car or two behind me. There was, like, -no one- cept us on the road, so I didn't have to worry too much. I thought I was going to get eaten. We stopped at the next light, and I pulled away at a normal pace (not like how I initiated the race). I think my girl said they looked over a couple of times at the red. Then, I just turned at the next light and drove home.

I guess it must of hurt to know my little Pro took him.

I've beaten others here and there, but I remember this incident over others.

something similar happened to me once in the van. was driving an AWD'94 grand caravan(3.8L with some moxy suprisingly!) at the time. was in the left lane at a light and this mauve/purple 98ish caravan pulls up next to me. i don't really waste time at lights and am usually off the line when the red winks out (gotta keep those reflexes sharp ) so as the light turned green i started accelerating normally(with the 3.8 and awd she's a champ when you punch it and i like to accelerate smartly). by the other side of the intersection, his nose must have been around my rear bumper and i gave just enough juice to keep in front of him as the street isn't very well kept and has some fierce potholes that are best avoided by cheating into the right lane a bit. anyhow, i stopped accelerating at around 80kph and i hear him scream by with his engine wailing like a raped ape. i kind of shook my head and let him pass.

the guy in the purple van gets about 300 ft ahead of me and i see a black van pulling out of a parking lot making a left about 100ft down the road, no sign of brake lights at all from the dude who passed me, i start to slow down and get the cell phone out to dial 911 and sure enough the guy in the purple van t-bones the black one, must have been at least 100kph. about ten seconds later and all the pieces still haven't landed on the ground. anyhow i run up to the black van first and the one guy's alright, then go to the purple one and the dude is conscious but not cognative, call for emergency services and block off the road. finally the guy in the purple van starts to shake it off and starts bitching at me about how it's my fault because we were racing!

thank god everyone was alright but don't blame me if you can't watch the road ahead of you! furthermore, i didn't even break 3500rpm from the last light, racing my ar$e! anyhow, the summons comes two months later and i'm going to court in two weeks as a witness cause the other two guys are gonna slog it out.

Well this was about 5 or 6 months ago. I was driving my moms 2000 Mazda MPV to pick up my father at the airport. On the way to the airport there is a real long highway. Well I'm driving pretty fast then all of the sudden this person in a about a '96 Caravan pulls next to me then takes off. So I speed up until we're side by side. We both slowed down a little. Then he floors it and gets about a car length and 1/2 ahead. Then I floored it and about 3 second later I blew by him. It was fun putting the MPV to the test. That Caravan was no match.

well i've got you all beat. two nights ago, after picking up my friend from work, we were on our way to her house after just getting off the highway. this white geo metro pulls up next to me at the light revving his engine, so of course i do nothing but laugh. he takes off like a hampster out of hell to the next light where i pull up next to him, still revving his engine at me. the light turns green, and he drops the clutch in this thing, makes the tires squeel and i take off normal. i pass him in first gear, hit second around this fairly sharp curve and i see him cheatin into my lane, the curve ends and we're in a straight away now and i let off to look in my rearview to see him sliding sideways almost into the curb. mind you, i never left second gear so i never broke 60mph and he almost lost it.

but, this is all after the gti incident on my way to the mall to pick up my friend from work. i'm driving down a back road to head to the mall, and out of nowhere, i hear this whining noise pulling up next to me, it's a newer silver gti (couldnt tell if it was a 1.8t or not) but this friggin guy wants to race, and i'm not game because of the road we're on. so he just decided to drop it a gear and take off coming up to this curve in the road. next thing i know, i can hear his tires screeching as he's sliding sideways into the curb... curbs both of those nice passenger side wheels and still kept driving like an ***, then made an immediate left turn at about 50mph.

about a month ago, before i got my trespassing ticket at the meeting spot for street racing... i was on my way to the spot, and i pull up to this light with a nice red rx-7, and a white del-slow. it's a three lane left turn setup on a 6 lane road. we all have our own lane, each of us behind another vehicle. well, me and the rx-7 are just driving normal because there's traffic.. but apparently the honduh owner thought it would be cool to try to race us. so i decided to just turn get on the road, and get all the way over in the right lane to make another turn up ahead at the next light. well this del-sol was weavin lanes to try to keep up and passed the van next to me... next thing i know, out of nowhere about 50 feet ahead of me i see the delsol coming sliding sideways across three lanes. i had to slam on my brakes (only doin about 50mph at this point, speed limit is 55 there) as not to hit this del sol which just went up on two wheels after sliding into the curb with white smoke pouring out of it (clutch and tire smoke) it just kept driving, and turned into the gas station i was going. both of the wheels were wobbling really bad which i could see from behind it. he drove home like that, because after he got out to inspect the damage to his wheels and body, he got back in and left...

thats a good way of thinking about it...I think I'll feed that to the cops next time they pull me over...think it'll work?

Oh. I avoid the police and ensure that they have nothing to stop me for (I make sure all lights work, blinkers work, stop lights work). Course, yes, if they were to catch me speeding, it would be another story. However, having a radar detector, a keen eye for spotting patrol cars, and a funny sixth sense for knowing when and where cops are keeps me from getting a ticket. I have yet to recieve a ticket for speeding.

I did get a couple of tickets when I first started driving here in California about three-to-four years ago, but that was before I honed my skills at detecting police.

Well, in that case, I've jinxed myself close to ten times in the past year. I guess I'm still waiting for my ticket(s)!
