I'm sorry if i offended any1, that was not my intention....to be honest, i don't know much about protege's. I used to work for Hudiburg Nissan here in Oklahoma, and i know the spec-v is a suped up version, i just didn't know it was in the same class. (To be honest, i thought the protege was in a higher class, since the interiors, etc. are much nicer than the spec-v's.

Sorry again, i didn't mean to come off as a rude-***.

I'm not hating hopefully I will be getting a new mazdaspeed protege, but I hate seeing mis-information being spread.

**edit** Also, the LSD doesnt make a difference during take off. But it shure as hell helps when hitting the twisties at 70+ mph
I understand that mis information is a real pain in the ***... When you are stating that you dislike mis information you need to be careful not to "mis-inform" in the same post. Administrators hate that.
A true LSD will help drastically in 60 ft times as well as cornering power. AWD cars have the best 60 ft launches don't they? Effective power delivery to 2 wheels is closer to AWD then 1, at least I thought?

Nissan has been putting some weaker LSD's in their sportier cars lately.(Read about the ******* they threw in the 350Z in SCC) I have driven one of my best friends Spec Vs and I could get the inside tire to scream almost as easily as my P5. The gearing of it is a big disadvantage (something like 42mph in 2nd?!). Combine a close ratio 6 spd. with a low reving, flat torqued engine and you will be shifting that cable linkage all day long. The gearbox does not take advantage of the engines torque at all. That is another reason why the 0-60 times were not sub 7 sec, like everyone said they would be. It can barely squirt a 99 or 00 Si

Personally, if i was older and could afford a sentra SE-R i would spring for it. My 99 Protege ES is slower then ***** even with my intake and exhaust. I would love to have a car that is faster then this thing... stock. And if you go strap a turbo on ur Protege what's to say the guys with the SE-R's won't too? And when they do.. it'll be a never ending cycle of our little protege's gettin beat by our main competition. Its sad really that a Non turbo can pump out more power then the MS Protege too. I have no problems with my car, I like it an all.. but mazda has to grow some bigger ***** if they wanna compete in this class.

MS protege's put more power to the road than spec V's. How is that for stapling on a set???

What are you complaining about, you have a 99es 1.8 be happy ,.. chdesign has made a few custom bolt up set ups for you 3rd gen guys and the whole damn kit is like 990 or so ,, if Ihad a 3rd gen 1.8 ., I would jump on that ,... shoot right now I am researching about turbo's for my 1.5L 95 pro ....
bro strap that turbo on and get boost, so what if they get a turbo , they won't blow you by much if any at all

Well I haven't been to this board in a while, actually since I was car shopping - trying to decide between a new Protege5 and a new Spec-V. I ended up going with the V and love it.

I was disappointed when I came back here to see some people talking how slow V is compared to their protege and whatnot. And how underpowered it is.

Well anyway, correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think there is any protege that can hang stock vs. stock - unless the driver is horrible. I think the Protege 5 and MP3 both do the 1/4 mile in the mid 16s while the SE-Rs and Spec-Vs do it in a second or more quicker - stock...

I am in no way ******* the Protege though, for I do know that they outhandle the V extremely, and many other cars for that matter.

Oh yeah, and don't forget that the LSD is only Limited Slip, that doesn't make it slip-less =). I remember the first time I tried to run my V I was spinning tires until I hit 3rd gear. You still have to learn how to launch, even with the LSD.
