Racing a Jetta 1.8t 150hp

Firstly, I must indicate I am NOT a ricer. I know the Protege 5's capabilties well and do not encourage drag race because; 1) it takes no skill (unless simple shifting is a skill) 2) whoever has a more powerfu engine wins. But anyways, I was lined up with my friend driving a 150hp Jetta 1.8T at a stoplight and we decided to have some fun. When the light turned green, he took off first with a little tire chirp while I was still trying to get my revs up. His Jetta took the lead because his car's torque comes at a low 1950rpm, so he pulled away about one and a half car lengths. After I got my revs up pass 4000rpm I was still 1.5 cars behind after maybe a 500m run. It leaves me with the impression that the P5 is not as powerless as some claim it to be, I think its a fine engine when you rev it hard, and I especially like the high pitched intake sound (kind of like a turbo) it makes when it switches to its short length runners in its intake manifold beyond 4000rpm. Does any Protege ES, 5, MP3's owners notice this sound too? MY car is completely stock so I don't know if some of your modded cars have the same characteristics.
Where the P5 shines however is on the twisty roads. On many occasions, improperly lowered Civics (which affect the car'shandling capabilities and dynamics), stock Corollas, Cavaliers tailgate me on a straight part of a curvy road, when the first 70 degree turn comes up, all it takes is a one gear downshift,to coax the slight slide while the sticky Dunlops claw the ground, and also to bring up the revs for speed when exiting a corner, to make the tailgating vehicle so much smaller in the rear view mirror after the turn. I just love that feeling. Make you al warm and fuzzy inside.

There you go, before I couldn't put it into words when people ask me why I have to accelerate away from cars. I don't do it to prove a point, I just hate people following me, and it gives me that 'warm n fuzzy' feeling hehe

before you say it take no skills to do drag racing you sould try it first... and you will realise it takes more skills then you think when you will get smoke by a car slower then your car... ive seen tons of prelude, mustang, WRX, etc... run in the 16s while I run in the low 15s with my almost stock civic!

skills!? yeah you need some...

Everything requires skill-even picking own nose. Bad move and it's bleeding.

EDITED:
Top WRC drivers somtimes stall their cars at take off. Colin did it on thursday in Corsica. So Mr QuickSir, you can congratulate yourself on being better than WRC driver with 23 wins....
