Miata vs Mustang

I know that this is a pro website and I have a pro. But last night I was coming off taco bell after getting some delicious bean burritos. At light there is a miata it looked like a 99 and a mustang 5.0 and that one was a 98 or 97. Man you should have seen the miata kill him, It was really funny. The last thing I got to see was the miata going into third and having about 4 car lengths on the mustang. Man the miata looked very fast.

cool.

the mustang would have been a 4.6L V8 if it was a GT. 5.0s went out after 95.

if it was a 3.8L V6 i can definitely see it getting killed if the miata was on the ball.

You are right it was the 4.6 V8, thanks alcoholiday. Believe me I dropped my bean burrito on my lap and my friend was in shock when we saw it. I mean damn they were going fast.

mustangs are just big, heavy beasts. there's just no way around it.

and if the miata was hooked up and had a good driver, i'm not surprised at all.

any indication as to what was done to the miata? the mustang?

If it was a 97 or 98 Mustang it had 225 Hp from the 4.6 V8. They ran High 14s low 15s with a decent driver. I just don't see a stock Miata taking one be 4 cars unless it had some serious mods. Doesn't a miata run like 16's in the 1/4? If it had a turbo or nitrous I could see it happen. If it was a Monster Miata with a 5.0 V8 in it I could see it wopping up on alot of cars.

Its funny sometimes what people do to cars and keep them looking stock. There is a guy around here that has a stock looking old school VW golf with a hugh turbo and nitrous to help it spool. It runs high 10's in the 1/4. Looks stock from the outside.

I think the miata must have had ALOT of work done to it. Stock '02 miatas run about 16.00's (High 15' if you're lucky) while the mustang can run mid to high 14's all day long. As for aftermarket support the mustang clearly wins that battle and I can't see any mustang owner not doing anything to their car at all (Especially for five years, if he/she was the original owner)

Peace

Yeah but i know alot of stang drivers that are just happy with the power they have and normally just buy a exhaust and intake. Ever see the 10 sec miata ?...Jon

The miata (Meaning one) and to answer your question no I have not. But I have seen several mustangs run high 6's to low 8's. Fastest mustang I ever personally saw did the quarter mile in 6.89. Man was it beautiful, turbo’d 5.0 L, it would lift the front end off the ground, settle back down and rocket to the finish. I just have to defend the mustang here, it's my favorite car, has been for 24 years now. Plus I use to own a blown '92 5.0 L LX (10.60 was my fastest time on Mickey Thompson slicks)

Peace

Oh no dont think im bashing the stang i drove one for awhile very fun cars. But the miata shouldnt be underestimated at all its a very quick car with alot of potential. I know the mustang can be insanely fast and still be street legal But most stang drivers dont do that much to there cars ...Jon

I know that mustangs are fast, I've been to the track and man they run fast. A miata beating a mustang is possible. But a year ago I remember someone saying that a miata was able to beat a corvette of course after an engine swap. I dont recall who said that. But miatas are fast, those things are pretty light

Well just like itzkcatz said a miata is about 20k while a vette is 60k. Well just imagine for that price difference you could hook up the miata and you could also buy a 1994 toyota supra and make it all fast and furious (jk).
