Do you know what type it was? GS or GS-R, Type R owners rarely rice them out so if it said Type R it probably wasn't. Plus they are rare enough as it is

It was more than likely a GSR, but then again I don't know the potential of these cars (new to protege forum) I pull on LS's pretty good, although they are very torquey and can see plenty of cars getting pulled on by them if they don't watch it. I drive a 1993 Accord with a JDM f22a (SOHC) GSR's and LS's are like night and day, and unless you know a lot about them you can get them mixed up and find out the true power of the b18 series DOHC Vtec motor Riced out or not a GSR is fast unfortuneately. I saw a 98 GSR with 18" chrome (ugly) rims and stock height, stupid exhaust..it looked like a 4x4 with chromies..what a shame

Yup, you think they get up there quick in a GSR...After I did a GSR Swap into a 93 Hatch..my friend was pulling roughly low 14's high 13's stock..It is now Turboed, and runs low 12's high 11's on 14psi.

COME ONE PEOPLE !!!

The B16 is nothing compared to the new Protege...... oh and these stoopid kids who spend mommy and daddy's money to "rice out" their cars.... what a joke.... they dont even know how to drive them properly half the time. But when they do they can be a formidable foe.

I would prefer not ta say I am gonna "rice out" my protege, but hell if thats what it is thats what it is.

I am in the market for a set of JDM intake and exaust camshafts for my 2001 Protege MP3.

A few nights ago a kid with an integra RS tried to race me.... I wasnt even trying to start hard. I went into first at 2800 rpm and shifted to second at 3500, thats when I realised he wanted to play.

I then pressed it to 5800 in second, same to third and fourth and started to creap past the guy. I ended up passing him in 5th doing almost 105mph and could care less.

His car was smaller, lighter and same amount of hp, he had an exaust.... or mabey just a fake me out tip. These kids dont know who they are messing with half the time.

I think alot of you guys with the G1 and G2 protege's should start whooping up on these "rice boys". Even though the second we do anything to our cars we fall into the same category.

Learn to drive your car. Seriously, the MP3 and MP5 have incredible suspension and handling. So put them to work. I am not saying to go pick fights...... just dont let some punk kid get away without a fight.

ok.... I am done being mad at that guy. I have to say as a former 1996 civic ex "riced out" owner I know the power of these cars. I like them and enjoy looking at them.... but they cannot compare to the proteges handling..... and when you get down to it..... thats whats really important.

bye.......... for now........

I agree with almost all that you are saying. noboby here hates honda acura owners more than me (no offence travis) but the thing is that we(pro owners) are so wrapped up in triying not to be like the honda/ acura guys that we loose sight of what we should do. I am not saying to pick fights either but rather to stop being affraid just because it is a honda or acura **** on that we need to stand up and show these punks we are not laying down any more w/ out a fight.

I sometime am suspicious of the so called 1/4miles that people quote. People claim they to run high 11's with a turboed engine making around 250hp or so they claim. But the Ferrari F50 runs only a 11.1, and the new Viper somewhere in the high 10's? Heck even a Audi R8 GT racer runs high 10's. Is it really that so many people are outrunner these supercars then? To me they're just buffing.

I could not agree with you more. I have honda/acura guys challenging me all the time. I usually do not race because it is obivous that their car is faster (GSR's Type-R's etc.) I have a few mods but nothing that increases that much power. I swear sometimes I want to have more power just so I can shatter some honda/acura egos. The cheapest way I can think of is to go with Nitrous, but I am not sure I want to void the warranty just yet.

I am gonna have to disagree. It is HP to weight ratio, I know of plenty of 93 Civic hatches hitting 10's with a H22a Turbo. You can't say a civic can't beat a viper or a mustang can't beat a viper because it is that type of car. I know plenty of local guys running high 8's and 9's in 5.0's but I guess they couldn't keep up with the ferrari cause they have a mustang It takes a lot of money to get a car into those numbers/times, I have respect for anybody who does it with a 4 cylinder. You are comparing a stock super car to a highly modified car, those are impressive times for stock cars, but compare the prices, how tuned they are. I can build up a faster hatch for more than 50% of the cost of those so called "Super cars". You are generalizing cars by their "name" and stock 1/4 mile times, yet you are comparing stock to modded

I dunno. Maybe it's just me *shrug*, but I could give a rat's *** about 1/4 mile times. Ooooo. You can jam your foot into the floor and shift the gear quick like, y0! Ooooo. I'm stunned!

Not that any of you are braggin or anything, but everyone is talking about 1/4 mile times. Pfft. You want a challenge? Take the guy you want to race to a SOLOII/Autocross track, and see who can lap in the fastest time. I believe that says more about performance than running down a quarter-mile.
A civic hatch with a nine second motor prolly wouldn't even last four laps at an autocross, let alone put down decent times. Unless that nine-second civic is being driven by a talented driver, and that's my point--most of the people out there on the streets that can out accelerate you, or brag about being able to smoke your car, can't drive worth crud.

I certainly don't consider weaving in and out of traffic on the freeway a display of the handling characteristics of your car. :P
(Doing that is plain idiotic anyhow, not to mention inane.)

I mean, I plan on building a ~200hp NA engine, but the only thing I'll ever do, is race at autox events.

As for what Shingo said, yeah, I agree. 1st & 2nd gens could whoop on the little ricerockets, but I don't see too many nice Pros where I am. So, I want to be able to do it myself. Hell, I've been wanting to since I had my '91 Escort lx wagon (now gone). The thing is, once I have the power to blow away even the slightly modded Hondas/Acuras out there, I prolly won't even do it because I'd rather be doing it on the track (autox track, not drag, just to be clear).

I like the idea of being able to "drive" my car, rather than my car drive me.
Like I said, maybe it's just me.

Later on.

According to the laws of physics, the ratio between power and weight is extremely high meaning an extra hp can motivate much more weight. Weight affects handling and braking much more.
