Lost to a Acura Integra

I have to disagree...power to weight ratio is HUGE in acceleration....I used to have a 92 Mercury Capri XR2(-dont laugh btw, very closely related to our pros)ver similar to pro's and miatas....had 130bhp stock...tight handling..very little mods...i could smoke integra's all day even though they had me beat by 30 hp....also consider higher torque is better than higher hp.......I also took on a few v6 mustangs-190hp and kicked their butt too...Gawd I need to get a fast car again....no way I can make my pro fast without voiding my warantee....I think i might have to become a turncoat and go get a mid-eighties 300ZX,or a 280Z....I'd love to get another 280Z...that's a 5.0 killer!!,and Civics...faghetaboutit!!!

A couple of days ago, i was at a stop light and a black 96' GS integra pulled up. he was reving his engine. but i had about 4 people in tha car, so i switched to "sportshift" mode and the light turned green,........he had an automatic...we both took off neck and neck but when i "shifted" to 3rd and then 4th, he was about 1 1/2 car lengths behind me......
pretty tight for a weighed down protege

I was snuck (spelling ) by a sorry *** honda civic si I was at the light. I was not in the mood for racing I wasn;t evern looking at this guy. As soon as the light turn this guy throws up his two fingers signaling lets go by the time I realixzed it he was about one car length ahead I could have caught him but I let him go.

Power to Weight Ratio
Before I get started, let me point out that this is only directed to the ones who do not think that power to weight ratio is important to acceleration.
To those of you who believe this, that explains why you hate us "rice boys". Most of us understand that power to weight ratio factors into every aspect of racing. Whether it is at your local autocross where you are literally steering your car through some turns with more acceleration than steering wheel or if it is at the local 1/8 or 1/4 quarter mile where John Boy's cousin Billy Bob and his 5.0 just got beat to the line by Ryu Amoto's Del Sol, Power to Weight Ratio IS racing... ALL racing. Never forget that and you will have a better chance in the end.
Again, this is not a slam session (look JC, I made a funny), I am only pointing out that some people should concentrate a little more or understanding how speed and acceleration works and less time on hating Hondas. Not all of us are after you guys.

THINK:
How much does a lightened Civic hatchback weigh? About 2000lbs at its lightest, except if it is specially designed drag car with glass, and carbon fiber components. This will not make it weight lighter than Audi ALM race cars. Unless the Civic is pushing 600hp, a Civic hp to weight ratio will not best a race car.

I accually raced a B17 equiped GSR on the highway once (after I became boosted). Surprised the hell out of me. I pulled next to the guy and his girl, and he waved for a race. I obliged. I downshift to 4th, and expect to just walk away. Uh, uh. He pulls about a car on me before I had to drop into 3rd, and then I catch up, and then to 4th, I start pulling away. By 5th, I was ahead by at least 2 carlengths. I though I was gonna loose for a second. I learned 2 things that night:

What a B17 engine was
Never underestimate a Honda/Acura
Again, I say that some people should concentrate a little more or understanding how speed and acceleration works and less time on hating Hondas. You are comparing apples to oranges. Why don't you compare two cars that are built for the same purpose. Do you want to compare drag cars or do you want to compare autocrossers or maybe you would like to compare touring cars. The reason I ask is because you can not compare straight line racers to road racers. Two different cars, two different setups, two different techniques.
If you really believe that Power to Weight Ratio is not important then I can only hope that you bump heads with my B18C one day. I would be happy to show you the light.
