golf gti

I got a 95 Protegé S (1rt Gen Dx). Pretty stock, i think i used to have a drop in k/n filtercharger at this time, but i'm not sure about this.

A friend of mine got a 99 Gti not the vr6 one, the 2 liters. He's so proud, like if his car were the coolest ever ! he bought an neuspeed catback (800$ can) , so useless on his slow car... but really noisly. He also got an Kn filtercharger with an open air-box Tie-Wrap way.

So one night we were drivin down to his place, both in our cars. I chalenge him a couple of time. After 2-3, he finaly agreed to drag race. I didnt thought an "not vr6" gti were that slow. i eated him 2 times in a row. i think i insulted him, he said i won because his car's geared different.. big deal! winning is winning. Now he is thinkin about gettin a turbo or a supercharger.. Hope it will get him under 13 second 0-100km ! uuhuhuhu.

Nice

1.8T is supposed to be really fast for a stock car, some people prefer it over the VR6, but I don't know about your friend's 2.0.

Never looked much into Golfs even though we had one back in Yugoslavia, a '81 Golf, it was always a few months older then me, it pissed me off hehe
Oh yeah, the reason why I didn't look much into them is because of the dealers here, they're so cocky, they tried to pressure me into signing a deal right away and put down money that would be non refundable. WTF? Those Blitz tactics don't work.
On a sidenote, our '81 Golf was still well in '94 when we left him.

Did your friend get manual or automatic? And how much did he pay for his Golf?

the 2 litre golf engine is 115hp. But i dont think you can get the 2 litre engine in the GTI. I think only the VR6 and the 1.8T are available in the GTI (at least for 2001 models). I am not totally sure though. I looked in to a gulf before i got my P5, my decision actually came down to the golf or the P5. But the golf was no where near as fun to drive. It felt slower, even if it wasnt that much slower, it felt sluggish, and didnt handle anywhere near as nice as the P5. Plus equally equiped the Golf was like 3 grand more. I love my P5!!!

Canadian Golf 99 came with 2 liters or vr6 engine. I think 1.8t were only release in canada in 2000 or 2001.

It's not TDI?

The turbo diesel version is pretty damn slow. That would explain it but, I'm not sure it's a 2.0L. I bet he felt bad about spending all that money and losing to your protege
