Golf vr-6 against first gen turbo
I just tried my car against a golf vr-6 on the interstate rolling start at around 120kmh. Well the golf pass me but not has fast has i would have tought he had about to car lenght at 200kmh talked to the guy after and his not completely stock so i made a good impression on him and the car his not yet all tuned i wonder when finish if i will be able to pass in front i think so but not shure. If only i had the time to go to a drag strip to know my 1/4

If the guy said he was flooring it and you kept up, you should be VERY proud.

'98 GTI vr6 = 2800lbs, 172hp, 172tq
1st gen Pro LX = 2400lbs, 180hp, ???tq
Once the protege is tuned, shouldn't be much of a contest. Wonder what the VW guy had done to it. Good run regardless

That's what i'm wondering hp and 1/4 but he said he wasn't stock cause i tried myself with a corrado vr-6 at a complete stop and where side by side until 80kmh. Don't worry i'm really proud to have kept with him even more knowing that i'm not even near the end in the tuning the engine needs i'm still running the n/a ecu with piggy-bags but a sds stand-alone should be in the near future with a good size intercooler the one i have now has 1 3/4 of inlet and outlet so maybe i will pass in front someday but for now i'm proud of my little sleeper.

dec. 1996 R&T magazine: GTI VR6 gets 7.1 to 60, and does the 1/4 in 15.5 at 90mph. Purely stock.
Atila, do you have a turbo? Are you otherwise making 180hp? Because I'm wondering where these other guys got these numbers.
Going by magazines, 1st gen LX's are only a bit behind the VR6, so a good driver can make it up at the track.
Nice run keeping up, though.

the VR6 would have never stood a chance if the Protege GTX turbo was tuned and running real boost ...

The 323 GTX and GTR came with 1.8 Turbo motors in japan and UKK , but not the US .... Well these same motors fit into your 1990-1994 Protege .
The GTX had a output of 180 hp , from the factory and the GTR witht the use of a bigger turbo , put out 210 ....
he has a GTX in his car and is running 10 lbs of boost...
Thus this is why he could keep up with the VR6 so well

Yeah, if Atila did that swap, then he should be ahead. I thought you guys were morons.
Atila, when you get that thing working right, find a mk2 GTI with a VR6 swap. That'll be a real match up.
ps- keep it on the track, though.

well for the power part i dynod my bpt in my mx-3 and it hit 162 hp and 165 tq at 8.5-9 psi stock. so i would say that hes around the 180hp and 185 tq at the flywheel area. either way very nice. the better vw to go after is the gti 1.8t. and a little incit on the vw vr6 and 1.8t is they suck on launches. ask anybody that has one and they will say its hard as hell to launch without massive wheel spin. these are all 2000+ models of course. either way good job. have fun with the 1.8t. trust me they are fun.
