DX First gen vs. 2000 Si

there's this guy that wants to race me. he has manual 2000 Civic Si with an intake and exhaust, I have a DX auto, intake and exhaust too. It's not that Im scared of those Si's but do you think he'll smoke me reallly bad or will I be able to keep up with him?

Si's are pretty quick. He'll smoke you for sure. And FIY there's no automatic SI's. They are all manual.

No, but he explicited mentioned it was manual, thereby suggesting that it might otherwise have been... otherwise (automatic).

i got beat by one of those. damn things are quick! got him in first, but by the time my auto shifted to second, he was already a half car length ahead. by the end of second, he was a car length ahead. by third, umm... i got flashed. hee hee. oh well. let's just say it was pretty embarrassing.

i had a stick P5 with intake and muffler and eibacks only
and i was running 16.5

i raced a civic si and he only beat me by the jump he got, i had no launch that run.

i know we are talking about a first gen, auto, but i thought i'd just throw that in...

yeah there is pretty much no chance that you will beat a si civic. especially with a sohc automatic.

No offense but... you don't have a chance to beat him. I remember shortly after I got my '93 auto DX a friend of mine with a '00 Si just left me in the dust while I had the throttle on the floor. Those are quick, and nice, cars .

I have a SOHC DX 1st gen and I think it's a LOT quicker than most of the people on these forums give it credit for. I'm not saying that he wouldn't get beat by a 2000 Si (he porbably would, esp. with an automatic) but it bugs me when people are like "well OF COURSE he's gonna lose, he has a sohc!" How much of a HP difference are we really talking between SOHC and DOHC?? not too much!

I think the question would be how much HP difference between a SOHC G1 and a 2000 SI?

Ive got a '92 DX and I agree that most people dont realize how quick they are off the line. So what if its a SOHC, its still making just as much torque as the DOHC, and torque is what gives acceleration, not horsepower. That combined in a lighter car (no power options) and really short 1st and 2nd gears, makes for a car that is hard to beat off the line. But im not saying he will win, with an auto ya MIGHT get him in first, but after that you will be getting very familliar with SI taillights. (if you can still see them in the distance ) Thats the reason when I street race, I always cut it off at 55mph, (just past redline in second) cause if I hit third, things get really embarassing, for me!! Also why I love racing 1/8th mile, im beating all the imports, and im not far behing the big V8 boys, so everyone thinks im wicked fast, even though I cant pull a 16 sec. quarter mile to save my life.

just look at it this way. an si civic will spank a 3rd gen 2.0 litre. and im pretty certain a first gen dx wont take a 2.0 3rd gen. so just forget about it.
