beat a stang....

... well there is a story behind it...

I was coming back from work one day.. and was chilling at a red light, when I heard some serious BOOM.

Pulling up next to me was a older stand, GT, Cobra. Yeah, enough to woop my ***. There was 3 guys in there, all looking at me, and laughing, while the driver was revving up his engine, eggin me on.

First off, what a freak, to come up to a protege, and want to race... so anyways, I figured I could NOT race him, and let him fly off... or AT least TRY and see what the protege can handle.

So watching the light,... it turns green... and I step on it... lucky the roads were dry, and I got of on a good start, and flew foward... about 2-5 seconds later, I didn't see no mustang pass me... in fact, I was far ahead of the mustang....

2 words... he stalled.... you can't imagine how happy I was when I saw this!!! I was laughing all the way home.. and just the thot of his friends and how bad they were laughing at him, made it even better... ahh a good day for the Protege....

Good story Blue
I've seen it happen to the best of them.
but the stang should find something with a V8 or anything with a turbo. If he did this to a WRX he might lose stall or no stall.

Not a protege story, but a funny story..

I was driving my '86 GN and had just gotten off the expressway onto a main road. This young guy (kid) in a coupe 5.0 pulls up to me and signals for me to roll down my window.. he tells me he wants to see what he can do against my car..

He says "You go ahead"

I reply (smiling) "Go ahead, go.."

He nods and jumps on it..

I jump on it.. pass him.. see him in my rear view getting further and further behind..

No big deal right? Well I get pretty far in front of him and I can see he's letting off, so I let off.. and he pulls up beside me and says... "Thanks"

Um, anytime.. hehe

I had another guy in a 5.0 race me one night when we were all out racing.. I had soft compound tires on, dump pipe opened up, and a stage 2 chip in. This guy had a 5.0 w/bottle. I figure it should be interesting..

The signal is given and we jump on 'em.. I take off.. he hits the f'n bottle.. it's a damn good thing I took off, he came swerving into my lane where I just left out of.. little punk would have smacked into me if I wouldn't have left the line yet.. or if I wouldn't have had those tires on..

Bottom line? Be careful who you race, some people out there are just idiots and mommy and daddy shouldn't give them cars!!

oh yeah! the GN is some serious shiznit. i'm no muscle car guy, but that or a Boss 302 would be a nice addition to the 3 car garage

i do that to Porches and Ferarris around here, not to race, just to watch the car accelerate like a bat-outta-hell. those flat 6 Porches sure sound sweet.......ok sorry enough off topic jabber

Wow we got a lot of dreamers here. Granted the GNs are great cars that can run with the best, but unless the driver of the 5.0 doesn't know what he's doing it should be a close race. I know, I had my share of races against GNs, Z-28s, Trans Ams, etc. I won a few and lost a few. By the way, I had several 5.0s to include a 93 Cobra and presently own a 91 GT with a few goodies. In a matter of fact, the first time I went to test drive a P5 I was in my 5.0 and was very disappointed with the P5. I like the style, so I went again but this time I was driving my Explorer and the test drive with the P5 was much better. I love my P5 and hope to get a few performance upgrades to be able to run with the Hondas. ( a turbo would be nice

I get the feeling someone doesn't like turbos? Anyone else get that feeling? Maybe just me. :P

LOL I didn't like turbos until I got one . Giggle gas is ok if you don't have the $$$$$ to spend on a good turbo.

turbo the fs-ze

slapping a turbo on my fs-ze is something I really want to do as soon as someone makes a kit (and a few kits ARE in the works). The only "problem" is the 10:5:1 compression in the fs-ze. High compression leads to detonation. However, I know that there are loads of TypeR 'tegs and Si's with turbos and those are higher compression engines. So, how do they do it? Run ultra low boost? Lower the compression? What would be a good way to lower the compression?

Re: turbo the fs-ze

You would have to either lower the compression, or run low boost and retard the timing to prevent detonation. You would need to change the pistons back the the US pistons to lower the compression enough to make a difference, which is a big job and defeats the purpose of swapping in the FS-ZE engine.

Smile well, I'll continue the topic change

Ok, I doing some research to find out how Si 's and type R teg's turbo their cars (anyone wanna help?Blue ) The Si and type R run 10:2:1 and 10:6:1 compression. Many turbo versions probably have forged pistons and rods. At this point, I'm not going to change my fs-ze pistons or rods. A metal head gasget will help lower compression to some extent. And A front mount intercooler seems to be cheaper and easier than setting up a water to air intercooler.

I don't know of a way to retard the timing and won't that hurt the power output?

I know this can be done safely and can produce a good aount of power. Hopefully I'll find some info on a type R with a turbo and suppliment that info with the stuff you guys posted.
