Question 02 ES Vs Saturn S-Series

Should a stock 02 ES be able to beat a saturn s-series (either SL1 or SL2)?

I was out with some friends and some other friends were driving too. We came to a stop light and when we both took off he pretty much destroyed me off the line, granted i had a terrible start. He was ahead of me for a while but i began to pull on him. I was just starting to pass him in fourth gear when i looked down and looked at the speedo and realized i was at 100MPH. I immediatly slowed down because i realized it was stupid. So technically i won, but is the saturn good off the line but poor top speed or was my start just that terrible?

I think those plastic polymer panels Saturn advertises to be dent resistant would be a weight savings and hence lesser force required to get the car moving from rest.

My mom has had saturns for a few years now. They're good for what they are: commuter cars, but not much more than that. I haven't driven it in a long time, but when I did it was reasonably quick (she has an SL2). I think my Pro would be able to take it though, and since the '02s performance is right on par with my '90 I think you could take it.

In a word......NO!

However, I don't know much about the newest ones. They MAY be slightly quicker than proteges.

1996 Saturn SL1 9.7 17.2
1999 Saturn SC2 8.5 16.5

Those are some stats of saturns most of the saturns run mid 16's . So goodluck not sure what a protege runs maybe about even, he could just be a better driver so he spanked u off the line ..Jon 93 lx

Well, from my research the SL1 has 100HP and torque of 114 at 2400RPM's

While the SL2 has 124hp and 122 torq. @ 4800RPM's

If it was an SL2 or SC2 you were running with you might have a sight bit of a problem due to the fact that the torque range is much higher than a Protege ES
