Win a NEW Protege Turbo Kit!
Win a NEW Protege Turbo Kit!
As the title states, ProtegeGarage is raffling off a brand new turbo kit for your Protege. By brand new I mean brand spanking new. This kit is a brand new, never installed, never boosted Mazdaspeed Protege turbo kit. It will come with the following components;
oil filter
all exhaust and oil gaskets
bypass valve
upper and lower radiator hoses
vacuum and oil lines
t25r turbocharger assembly
calloway manifold
mazdaspeed heat shield for the manifold
downpipe from turbocharger
factory charge pipes and clamps, including duct for airbox
exhaust manifold bolts and studs
water and oil feeds for the turbocharger
winner would need to supply an intercooler setup and fuel management. this could be accomplished by using a stock SMIC/radiator combo and mazdaspeed ECU for example. i will get pictures up of the goodies tonight.
raffle tickets are $10 each. so yes, for $10 you could be well on your way to turboing your N/A protege . I have stopped taking paypal but will do so for this raffle. post here if you are interested. if you wish to simply purchase one or more tickets, send paypal to kenRmiller@hotmail.com
even better, if you want to buy 5 tickets, the price for five will be only $40 rather than $50. how much nicer of a guy can i be?

seriously though, I knew not very much about turbos as of September last year, and by the end of december I had assembled my own turbo kit, and by the first week of January I had installed it. There's a lot of information out there, but for the very basics, check http://auto.howstuffworks.com/turbo.htm
Not trying to get off topic but do turbos keep the vehicle reliable? Now before you say it I know they make factory cars with turbos but would it be correct to assume that a factory turbo car would have stronger bottom end over say the same model, non turbo version? My P5 warranty goes to April 08 so anytime after that I can install the one I win.
Well between the non-turbo and turbo Subaru Legacy they didn't (from what I've read), and well the Mazdaspeed Protege is the exact same engine (take that as you will).
hmm what else is offered with or without turbo.. oh yeah, the Mazdaspeed3.. from what I read has somethin (rods or pistons, don't remember) forged vs the non-speed variant, aside from all the other changes (direct injection and whatnot).
On at least most older Volvos (like the RWD ones) aside from the standard changes (different PCV system, different fuel control) it was the same engine.
I've seen enough 200k mile turbo cars to know that a little 'speed snail' under the hood doesn't mean the car won't last long.
