Hi,

Just as I put my 2000 Protege ES up for sale, I find a leak at the back end of the catalytic converter. As the car hs 82k miles, it is (sigh) out of warranty.

So, I'm looking for a used one. Note that this is the primary cat, not the pre-cat. From what I can tell, one from a 1.6 or 1.8 will work (according to the parts list that I have). Note that the car has CA emissions.

Does anyone have one that they've removed/replaced the exhaust with a high flow cat? I don't see that any auto parts stores list one. My other option is to go to an exhaust shop to get one welded in place (or fix the leak in mine.)

If you are the original owner of the car then it is still under warranty. By federal law all emissions componets i.e Cats, O2 sensors are warrantied for 100,000 miles. Look it up in your manual you'll see what im talking about.

 

Yep, I'm the original owner, and also thought that the warranty was for 96k or so. but in reading the 2000 Warranty Information supplement, it says 96 months or 80k miles. So, I'm 2,2xx miles too long :-(
