Do you have to remove the gauge needles to install the faces? Or do they slide over?

I hear you actually have to trim the holes out some then slip them over. I heard the MP5 gauge needles do NOT come off. They break easy too! LOL but i know people that have trimmed the holes out some and they worked fine if your careful.
