Okay, here's the deal. I called my agent's office today, and his assistant looked up my policy. (I don't ever actually get to talk to the agent; that guy is like the freaking Wizard of Oz).

Anyway, she said that the accident I had TWO YEARS ago has finally hit the fan (case has finally been closed or decision reached or something), and that my rates went up because of that. Also, because of the accident, they decided to take away my "Premiere Customer" discount or whatevertf they call it, so that's a $200 increase right there. Plus, she said most people across the board got increases on top of everything else. So basically I'm screwed.

But I appreciate all your comments and suggestions, and I might consider looking for another company. Even though I had the accident, my record has been clean since then, so actually it might make more sense for me to start over fresh with someone else.

Thanks again!
A few months ago I was looking for a new insurance carrier as well, and talking to some people at work the action you described above from your paricular carrier is exactly the same info that I got from more than one person. They are in it to insure those that never have an accident, and when you do they seem to want to screw ya.

In the end I stayed with my carrier when they matched the rates that I had been quoted by two other carriers. I would seriously look at the two newer players in the market (Progressive and Geico) as they had really good price quotes for me.

I can not vouch for either in the customer service department as I have never had to deal with them, but at least one person I talked to has dealt with Geico quite a bit and has been very happy with the service he has been getting.

good luck.

I agree with JJB, try progressive and geico (though I have heard of some issues with progressive customer service). I personally have USAA, am 27, wife same age has a '00 Xterra, and we pay $575 every 6 months for the two vehicles. USAA requires a military affiliation, so unless you are active duty, retired, or someone's dependent, you can't go with them.

unless all those cars in your sig are not yours ... then ummm.... why are they in your sig

Actually they are my cars. I forgot that I get a 10% discount on the Protege for having a "Multi-Car" discount. The Mustang is on what they call limited mileage. As long as I don't go over 5K a year then I only pay 415 every six months. The Passat is insured under my Fiance till we get married in August. The insurance company won't let us register as Married even though we have lived together for over a year and we are both (I am the Co-signer) own the car. In August my agent said our insurance will drop almost in half.

ahhhh !! then that is sweet. yeah the Protege is under the same circumstances. It is insured as a weekend car. which basically it is now.. the 323 is the everyday gant..
I want to get a newer car in the future but I think I would rather invest in a house..

Hmmm....I'll have to call Progressive. I'm on my third speeding ticket now.

The first two were dismissed, but this last one (90 in a 65) is staying on my record.

Here is a few tips for you guys... I work for an insurance company.

1. The higher you say your annual miles are.. the more money it will cost you... also how many miles one way you drive to work can hurt you too... so just tell them you drive 3 miles a day to work and 8k miles a year... TRUST ME!!!! I have changed this on peoples policies and the premium increased big time... using the example i gave you above.. should still keep you at "pleasure" use and not "work" use...

my insurance company also rates on your marital status, occupation and even your prior insurance company!! Depending on what insurance company you had in the past.. could cause your rate to increase. but all insurance companies are different.. our company's " mutli car discount" consists of one car on the policy and if you have a company car?? WTF!!??!! i hate working for this insurance company but it pays the bills...

As for accidents.... IT DOESNT MATTER IF YOUR RECORD HAD BEEN CLEAN FOR MILLION YEARS.... if you have an AT FAULT ACCIDENT your screwed!!! and depending on what state you live in...depends on how long it stays on record and your rated for it.. most states being 5 YEARS. Delaware however is 3years.

*** BRUCE...... I seen your gonna add COMP/COLL to your protege.... be prepared to pay big money....i would like to know how much if you dont mind.... not all vehicles will have a big increase when they add comp/coll.. but most do...GOOD LUCK!!
