WTF is up with my insurance?!?!

I just got the 6-month bill for the insurance on my Protege:

$1660?!?!?!?

WTF?!?!?!?

I'm not a 16-year-old boy driving a Corvette...I'm a 40-year-old lady driving a 2000 Protege back and forth to work.

I repeat,

"WTF!?!?!?!?!?!??!"

ouch, I'm a 25 yr old with a mark on my record, I still don't pay more then 1200 for both the proteges and rental. I'd call your ins agent and yell a bit.

Just got off the phone with Allstate Customer Service....

Basically, I was told to f*** off. Recent rate increases ranged from 5% to 150%, and I was "at the low end of the scale."

I said, "Well, considering there's been no activity on my policy other than prompt payment for the last year, I don't think it's low enough...is there somebody else with whom I can speak about this?"

"Ma'am....there's no one here who can make your rates go down."

I'll have to call my agent tomorrow, although I bet you anything he refers me back to Customer Service....

What is wrong with your Allstate company...wow...

I currently live in Seattle and that is more then what I pay in a year!!!

I would call my agent if I was you or find a new insurance company...that is insane for it to go up 150%!!!

I'd just check out progressive.com and see what kind of quote they give you. Living in Chicago might make a difference but that's a pretty big one.

seeing this post made me want to go check out my insurance rate for my recently added 323(whoptieeee) ..
anyway I go to my new york central mutual site and get the info below ...

for the 1995 Protege , dual airbags...... 670.00. ( I already knew this)
and for the 1991 323 , no airbags........ 320.00 (ohh shoot)

So that means I pay 990.00 for both cars for the total year. Ofcourse it is liability but oh well...
the protege will be getting full coverage soon.. but I really hardly ever drive it ....

needless to say I was surprised..
But 320 for a whoptieeeeee , you can't beat that.

Mine just were lowered, sorry to hear about your rate hike. I'm paying around $870/year for my two cars, but it's liability only. I hope it doesn't go up since I just got a speeding ticket

Most of you are lucky that you are able to get those insurance companies that offer you more discounts than other companies. here in Mass, we can only go as low as a step 9 driver (as low as you can go) and can have no other percent discounts. it sucks becasue then you get charged more (quite a bit more) when you live in an urban area vs. a rural area.

i can't complain becasue I am a step nine driver and pay $670/year with 50/50/100k rates and a $500 deduct. Prices went up a little from last year on my 2001 ES2.0.

Sorry to hear that your insurance was so high for half a year. Hope you get it fixed or get to another insurance company.

I forgot to mention, my ins. company is GMAC online insurance... Seems to be the cheapest i could find (which isn't necesarily good, but it's been fine for me so far)... I'd suggest you shop around, that sounds outrageous!

Okay, here's the deal. I called my agent's office today, and his assistant looked up my policy. (I don't ever actually get to talk to the agent; that guy is like the freaking Wizard of Oz).

Anyway, she said that the accident I had TWO YEARS ago has finally hit the fan (case has finally been closed or decision reached or something), and that my rates went up because of that. Also, because of the accident, they decided to take away my "Premiere Customer" discount or whatevertf they call it, so that's a $200 increase right there. Plus, she said most people across the board got increases on top of everything else. So basically I'm screwed.

But I appreciate all your comments and suggestions, and I might consider looking for another company. Even though I had the accident, my record has been clean since then, so actually it might make more sense for me to start over fresh with someone else.

Thanks again!
