Perhaps all these people have smartened up and have infact, done a search. Thus the lack of needing to ask stupid questions that have been answered a hundred times before.

yeah, thats why I'm thinking we're never going to grow any.....our info is accessible by anyone without any commitment. I've been to other forums where you're required to register to view and search threads. I think we should set something like that up here.

The assumption I was making with my original post is that since I've been talking about this supercharger we've gotten a ****-load of lurkers from other forums (possibly) who are just reading those threads and never doing anything else. I think making everyone sign up first will increase the activity here and in turn start a chain reaction of growth.

Of course it would increse activity but thell all be dumbasses asking stupid questions.

It would also decrese our exposure online so less people would know about this place and less would sign up. i remember being a lurker here for a couple days before signing up, again this place is a good source of information.

i'm not worried about dumbasses asking questions. I think we have this forum pretty well moderated and there are a few of us mods who are active here and keep things in check. The problem comes when you have 10K members and only 2 mods doing any real moderating work.

I would much rather spend an hour a day cleaning up threads and moving stuff with 10K members than being kinda chatty with 100 active members!

nothing wrong with lurking but when we have 3-4 times the lurkers as active members there is something that needs to change.

my goal isn't to keep people away but to get people active. I think by and far we have the nicest forum out there for mazdas (specifically proteges). Why anyone would be hesitant about posting is beyond me.

Basicly most people that have imports and want to mod them are young people that are a little on the immature (?) side and this forum wont let them acked like a bunch of idiots. The people here are grownup and that is what I like about it, if I need info I know I can come here and get it. Thats just what Ive seen.

yeah, we have some youngun's here like ghettopro and we give him a hard time but I think he knows we wouldn't steer him in the wrong direction.

What I found humerous (slightly upsetting) is that other forums use the information posted here to say they are a good site for information....uh...yeah.

If we make the threads only available to active users, it just might toss us into obscurity. After all, I am not so sure I would waste my time signing up for a forum, if I was not reasonably certain that it offered intelligent information and a semi-mature atmosphere. By letting people read our threads without being registered members, I think we actually pick up a few members. People see the content and think "gee, this is pretty cool. I want to be a part of this." At least, that's what happened to me.

I think, that if this forum was to be thriving just like it used to in the old days, people need to post. I come here all the time, and help out with people's questions, but that is mostly with 2nd gens. I mean everytime I come, I only see very few new thread/reply indicators, and I think others see the same, and that is what turns them away. This forum is very usefull with regards to information. Roddimus, its really nice at what you are doing by keeping this place running. But how long do you think you would be able to afford to do so. I know there are a lot of members that are registered here, but many of them went either clubprotege, or the third gen (*****-posting - no offense) forums. And both of them are still growing, they have many contributing members that donate, I am a moderator on clubprotege. This forum needs growth, and a way to intrigue all the newbs to stay. I think that one day this forum would be either really big, or just join with clubprotege.

Juddz, I didn't really think of that....it's almost damned if you damned if you dont.

Turbonium, I don't own the forum or pay for any of it's costs. I'm just a volunteer with a LOT of time on my hands during the day (hence my 5000 post count). The owner of the forum I think has pretty much given up on it but he did pay a lot of money not too long ago for good updates. I know we have several good sponsors (most of which are RX7 shops) but in order to get more we'll need traffic....traffic we have but ACTIVE posting members we dont. We need to find some way to convert them from lurkers to posters.

p.s. this forum will NEVER merge with clubprotege. I think Ryan would just absolve the whole site before doing that. If that happened I would probably purchase my own domain and run it all myself.

Does anyone have any ideas on how we can turn the lurkers into posters?? What if I were to donate some giveaway prizes or something randomly??

What we need is people to just post. Post about every dam thing.

Every time someone does anything they need to make a new thread. Alot of things people figure out on there own but this would help the site and encorage more partisipation from the normal members and get lurkers also into posting.

Ill take some initiative.
