Street racing is a part of growing up, unfortunately. But like drugs, it can ruin your life. I have several friends that were sued, put in jail, or financially ruined because of stupid decisions they made behind the wheel - most often racing or going way too fast. One guy got nailed going 135 in a 55. He spent a night in jail, lost his liscense, and when he got it back was lucky to get two-bit, second rate insurance for his Mustang. Another guy sideswiped a Nissan on an off-ramp while racing. He was sued to the tune of tens of thousands of dollars.

Another thing to keep in mind - a lot of prospective employers will check your driving record as well as credit history and references when they are deciding if they want to offer you a job. It's a character judgement thing. It might not matter now, but when you go looking to start a career, it will matter then! Chances are, most employers will check your driving history before they check you for a history of drug use. Any HR folks out there that can back up this argument for making responsible choices?

How fast is my P5? I have no idea. And I never intend to find out.

 

Oh, and another thing. I'm all for racing. That's why I am joining SCCA and doing autocross next summer. The beautiful thing about these cars has always been their phenomenal handling, not their straight line performance (which any kid in a $2500 Mustang 5.0L can cream). But I'm willing to bet that a nicely prepped P5 will spank that same 5.0L through the pylons!

 

ok...all i ask was what are the chances for each car of winning...why race an auto?...because i want to...and who said i would be doing 135 in teh 55?...noone...What it is going to be is basically an acceleration test...we probably wont go over 60 so i dont know why you are all going apeshit over it...

 

the problem (i think) is that a lot of us on here don't like the idea of new/young drivers engaging in acceleration contests.

You can think that you know it all and that you know better than we do but I asure the reason everyone's dumping on you right now is because what you're saying is stupid and could get someone killed.

I understand that therre is no track near you. There's not near me either. I have to drive over an hour each way on saturday nights to the track. It sucks. I'm willing to do it though to be a mature and responsible citizen. It's also a much more structured/safer/relaxed environment. Should something go wrong there is police, medical staff, telephones near by to get me help. I also will know exactly how fast I was and where I need to improve.


To sum it up for all the "old farts": Don't be a punk kid who thinks he's invincible and knows it all. You guys dont have race cars....dont play like you do. You not only put yourselves at risk you put other people at risk.


p.s. if you want to race I told you to come down here and I'd take you to the track.

 

Well...you dont have to worry about me racing at the time right now...Ive done alot of thinking and im worried more for a friends life than mine right now....me and him ride 4wheelers alot when he is down here and he visits alot and he had a 65mph 4wheeler and a 2 month old dirt bike and jsut recently got a 105MPH!! 4wheeler.....I have known him since i was 5 or 6 years old hes not much younger than me....and the fact that he might get himself killed on that thing just really makes me mad...We;ve been really good friends this long...why end it now by getting hisself badly hurt or killed on a 4wheeler....Im extremly depressed right now...i dont even care about getting a license right now....or anything else...

 

Well kid and I mean that respectfully, life is all about choices. We can only controle the ones we make. I just hope you make more good ones than bad ones.

my thery is this , ur how old and just geting ur license? u wana rac on street where cops cars and trucks are going 65 - 70 no no! experiance u say u have! im 17 have had license for 1 year and buddy i dont even say im experianced.!! + the fact im a scca go-kart racer, Gold Star when i was young. i understand the hole apex turning drifting thing . But still I AM NOT EXPEERIANCED! wtf makes u think u can just run out on the road and do **** like that . NEWS , the cops are already looking at u when u drive by cause of ur age. u race and u wont get license tell ur 21. JUST a little insite!

 

A 4 cyl S-10 is a slow POS..I rip them in my DX but mine's a 5 speed with intake,cams,and exhaust...4 cyl S-10's WILL NOT bark the tires past first gear and that takes one hell of a cluch drop...however an AUTO DX is not faster either..you'd beat him with a 5 speed but with an auto he has the advantage

We went driving the other day me and my friend jeremy in my car and josh and nathan in his S10....From my studies he would get me off the line but my car would get him top end and yes his squeels tires out of almost every gear..I dont know how hard the clutch dropping was but it did....but he also has one of those "governers"?? some kind of limmiter or somethign...so...yeah..

"governers" dont make your car fastter, they limit the top speed to something somewhat-sane.

You wont win hands down. Dont waste your time and gas. If you really need to beat him then like everyone else said, find a track, go there for a weekend trip, and smoke him threw the curves.

 

I knew they ddint make it faster and knew that they limmited top speed...which is why i said it would be possible to beat it..

 

Sorry i misunderstood because you refered to the chirping the tires then said "and he has one of those governers" i thought you were refering to the governer making it chirp the tires.
