staying in the mazda crowd or leaving ,, often confusing

Why the **** don't they put the FSZE in the Protege5? there is NOT A SINGLE REASON They couldn't have done this. I don't see how a FSZE would have problems with emissions and putting the FSZE in the P5's and new ES's would be inexpensive. I seriously don't see how it could be more than another $400 in manufacturing costs IF that.

The market is as competitive as it has ever been. More companies are coming out with breakthrough cars with amazing handling, decent economy, and excellent power. Mazda isn't one of these companies. The RX8 is a start, but its powerband and peak HP numbers don't outclass the 350z. People want cars with POWER. Thats what the market is calling for, and Honda, Toyota, and Nissan have caught on. Mazda is only catching on after their cars get reviewed by car mags. See how everyone bitched about the MP3's lack of power? mazda fixed it with the launch of the MSP. And what about the MPV having a peice of **** engine back in 2000? All the mags bitched about how it is the slowest minivan its class. Mazda caught on and shoved the 200hp V6 in there to fix it.
following the leader is NOT the way to gain market share, you HAVE to differentiate your brand from others to have a chance against the established names in the market (Honda, Toyota). Nissan is already doing this by sticking their VQ-series engine in as many cars/trucks as they can, making their cars filled with brutish power, and it's working. Mazda is taking its own course by focusing on building cars(and SUVs!) that have great road feel, sharp steering, excellent brakes, and LIGHT WEIGHT (even the Mazda6 is lighter than the comparable Accord/Camry/Altima)
you will always lose by playing follow the leader in a very saturated market like the automobile industry in US. They HAVE to take some chances and make cars that stand out among the crowd if they want to succeed.
and they ARE listening to customer feedback, otherwise the MPV would've never gotten the Duratec, the Protege wouldn't get the 2.0 in 2001, and MSP would've never gotten the turbo. I'm actually quite impressed with Mazda's response time to customer demands.
Mazda needs to get their head out of their *** and start getting their Jspec engine familes to pass US emission laws so they can market their cars more effectively.
quality of fuel is a big reason why some of the more powerful engines don't make it here

I actually, unlike most people here... tend to agree with wil almost exactly on all his comments. Because of all this it has been pushing me to move more to nissan more and more... ive boughten one nissan, now im even debating on buying another (G20 or something), or a turbo celica (1991 gt4) or something.... i just want more power, im sorry.
but i always to realize the greatness of my p5 when i drive it (less and less often lately), because of how well it handles (flat and quick in the corners) and how crisp and responsive the brakes are. its just that engine, ever since ive bought it, it disapoints me.

Yep nissans are great cars my friend has a 200sx ser 1998 and man that thing is fast and this other friend has a 240 sx 1995 that last dyno he did it put up 361 horsepower at the wheels but this past week pistons and rings are now gone so he is now thinking of going with the sr20dett man sorry for all this info, but Bruce I think that you should go with a wrx awd or just wait for the new sti with 300hp and 300 torque. Hey Bruce ever thought about getting a Nissan?
get a vr6 jetta and twin turbo that. Get a Subrau 2.5RS and build up the poorman's version of the STI motor. Get something that is AWD or rwd, too much power to a fwd and you'll be spin your tires trying to put the power down.
