Engine Light Staying On

On my way to work today I was driving a steady 60km /hr when I decided to change my heater to defrost. All of a sudden my car got a bit louder, which is normal when the A/C comes on, I then had a loss of power, almost like rev limiter , then it burped, engine light came on and power seemed to come back. The light won't go out.

Has anyone experienced this? I booked my car into Mazda so I'm sure a code was thrown, I'm assuming it may be EGR related because since buying the car, a couple of times at idle my car almost tried to stall or seemed like it was going to.

Hopefully it may be warranty related but if not oh well.

So when you say you switched the heater to defrost, you mean you switched it to blow on the front windshield right? So the A/C starts automatically. You're not referring to the rear window defroster correct?

Also, does your A/C still work?

Yes correct, actually I never tried the A/C itself but will at break. 15 minutes or so. I do know the A/C automatically comes on in defrost mode but I'm sure this may be EGR or coil related somehow. Maybe. I don't have my own OBD2 scanner so for now will pay the dealership just because I'm so far from home.

I don't think we have them in Canada but the A/C is working. Has anyone used an Innova 3120 OBD2 scanner on their Mazda, wondering if it's compatible and will recognize the codes.

Ok dealership says its the ignition coils and just picked up a OBD2 scanner to get the code myself. Where exactly is it? Under the dash? Thanks.

Repair cost was almost $450 so I ordered some coils from NAPA, quite a bit of saving.

Oh yeah the dealership asked me if I wanted to take the new MazdaSpeed3 for a test drive to see what I think, I get to go pick it up tomorrow at 10. woot woot

OBDII scanner is under the dash on the driver side. Right by the hood release.

$450 for a damn coil replacement?! God I hate stealerships .. I really don't know how they can have the heart to charge that much for something so simple. NAPA has the for about $50 or so right?

And definitely let us know what you think of MS3. I mean I don't have to guess, it's gonna be something along the lines of "HOLY HELL that thing hauls ***, handles like a dream, has massive torque steer, and makes me feel like a pimp" .. or something close to it.

That sounds like something a Porche dealer would say.
