the ricer
Let me start off by saying, that during my short time in this club i have noticed some things, one of which is people here hate honda's with a passion... now, i dont think its very creative for the people who only soupe up the civics and whatever car was in fast n furious...thats not really interesting to me, when kids pour tons of dollars into the same ol car, its like ya know, ok but ive already seen it, but the problem with this forum is, it only offeres negatives about honda's, do you honestly think they would feature honda's in fast and the furious if they werent any good? do you really think your protege could beat those civics and eclipses? iiiiiii have to doubt it unless you have a turbo, nos and tons of other extremly expensive mod's.
Why is it that we see only negatives about a honda, is it because everyone owns and mods them and much fewer do proteges? are we so jealous that they steal the spotlight that we can only trash talk about them within our own site?
When people talk about ricers, the common idea is, slow car, sounds fast...as if its a god awful thing to have with a car...and it tends to be teenagers with these kind of cars, correct? well, let me offer you a simple explanation, kids lack money, usually, therefor, they do what they can, with what they have, same goes for me...
For mods on my car i have a muffler and a short ram intake...pretty cheap, pretty loud, and to boot i have the hood lights, now according to the "ricer rules" i am a ricer (lets pretend i drive a civic)? i still love my car, its my first car, and it gets me to work, to school, and parties, and now, some adults from some protege website, are gonna come trash on me, and race me in the cars they've put tons of money into, and beat me and consider it a huge feat because i drove a ricer civic, and these guys will come back to thier site abd brag about how "i beat the ricer civic", as if they are hero's to all proteges, welllllll woopdy ****, my car still gets me from point a to point b and i still have money left over to spend on fun stuff
Alright, since i now everyone on this site probly wants me dead, or at least booted, i am going to draw my thread to a conclusion, which is simply this, we have no good reason to constantly trash on honda's, they do not say "proteges suck" on the side of them, and for us to be so insecure that we always have to talk **** about them is simply outrageous to me, i personally think we need to work on cutting back on the term, ricer and cut back on trashing on honda's, im not a hippy-****** pro peace tree hugger, but i do not believe we need all this tension TOWARDS honda owners, and i say towards because they dont trash on us back, or even acknowledge proteges because they are confident and mature enough that they can mind thier own business concerning cars...and with that, i've said enough

I see your point man. I have some views of my own.
Most of us trash on Civics is not because of the car, but because of their drivers. Most Honda drivers, think because they drive one, they are superior to everyone else. MOst people where I live anyways.
Just the other day, I almost was rear ended by a Civic tailgating me, although I was in the slow lane, driving above the posted limit. Wtf is up with that?
Yes, there are drivers in all types of cars that drive like idiots endangering not only their own, but as well many innocents' lives. But that majority of them seem to be driving what manufacturer's cars? Yes, Honda.
I respect souped up cars. A friend of mine has a 13 second 1993 Civic hatchback. The engine alone, a custom rebuilt engine with various internals and an Integra LS B18 block cost him $12000. When I asked does he race on the street, he replied, NO, because it's stupid and unsafe.
The gripe with Hondas are the ones who drive like idiots on the street. When I see a ricer, I laugh, because they look pathetic, thinking their "mods" will gain them any speed or respect for that matter. They have a right to make their car whatever they want, if they like it, then great. It's the same right I have to look and laugh at them. It's all in good fun.
Until..... an idiot cuts in front of me, missing my front bumper by inches, prompting me to sudden brake, just so he could get thru traffic while I'm going the posted speed limit in the slow lane going to dinner with my brother and girlfriend in the car. That promotes rage against these drivers, and thus hatred towards ricers.
Honestly, most ricers out there drive too offensively, which creates the negative image of themselves. In other words, the fault of this is not us, but the drivers of these vehicles themselves, so I would not say it's correct that we hate Honda owners, because we think we're superior in anyway.
Go to other forums, you'll see the same hostility towards Civics, etc. Why not Proteges? Well, you can answer that yourself.
I'm not being insulting to you in anyway, just in case you misunderstand.
I wish everyone would remember this, show peoplerespect and they will do the same (most of the time anyways).

Two words: paragraph break
Anyway, I think the anti-Honda sentiment you are sensing is simply the natural inclination of people to disparage the alternative to their own choice. (A.k.a. "sour grapes".)
This is also easily seen in computer architectures, operating systems, gaming consoles, etc. - just check the newsgroups!
For some people, as soon as they own, say, an X-Box, then all other consoles are ultimately inferior. Mac owners disparage "Wintel" machine, and vice versa.
Of course, they are those who "own both" (a generic statement that simply indicates that they are not completely polarized) and those who own only one, but do not engage in the tribal "mine must be better or I wouldn't own it" behaviour. It is my experience that these people are the exception rather than the norm.
An interesting side effect of this thinking is that people who acquire an item (car, computer, console, etc.) that was not their choice (or first choice) tend to identify with it over time and create justifications for its superiority after the fact.
Now as for Hondas, there are a couple of reasons I can think of that would make them a target:
1. They are popular and plentiful - an easy target and obvious "threat" (in the tribal mentality).
2. As an adjunct to #1, the sheer numbers statistically increases the ownership of Hondas by those one would scorn. Sort of, "The more people drive Hondas, the more idiots drive Hondas." This is not Honda's fault of course.

kudos to you leungwingkei, well thought out arguements...and its not true that we all hate Honda's here, I used to have a 2000 Civic Coupe with the Type R spoiler, 6CD changer, sub, and my totally riced out shoulder pads (which adds about 2000 WHP!) lol, I thought I was on top of the world...however it was the car I learned how to drive in, and I will always have respect for it (it was an auto...my pro is my first MT). what leungwingkei says is true, now that I have my license and Im driving around, my friends keep hustling me to race them, but I keep denying them cuz I aint a hardcore racer, I dont want a ticket, and I dont want anything negative on me (straight A's, plan to keep it clean ) I dont think he will ever stop buggin me till I waste him as hes got a Si (this is the Canadian Si mind you), which is stock except for all of the crazy lights and subs and stuff in there...not even exhaust and intake...he still thinks he can beat me, mb he can (doubt it ), the last time I rode with him, it scared me shitless...shifting was erratic, jumpy, as he kept tryin to impress me with his 'quick' shifting. I have lots of respect for the car, but its true, the younger drivers (16-18) are all high on their Civics, and want to street race...which is why theyve been nicknamed Rycers...its not the car, its the drivers...hell Im 16 and I know what goes through their heads...however Ive been in this scene for a few years now and I know what its like, which is why I cant stand people who street race...its just so dangerous...they dont realize what they are doing until someone close gets in an accident...Im fortunate enough to have an uncle who used to do this stuff, and hes guided me onto the right path...theres a place to race and its not on the streets.....Too many young kids like the civic because of its name, they know they cant afford the parts, but the decals they can and it more than makes up for the missing parts in their head. Hell Ill admit im a rycer...I eat rice every dam day, Im down with decals and **** if people like it on their cars, but what I dont respect is when I see cars with company decals that have nothing to do with their car...like a few days ago I was downtown and I saw a 16 year old driving a RSX, with TRD plastered on the side of it in big red letters (black RSX BTW) I had a good chuckle, but yeah they think the world of it and want to show off to people that they can race and be #1. Its unfortunate that we all have to face people like this, and its unfortunate that the Civic has a nickname now, but its due to drivers, not the car...

I don't think I've ever called anyone a ricer
And Protege Menace...that quote is damning... also look for some posts by civicsikid
Honestly I don't have too much problem with Honda but I'm not really interested in them. And "rice" really isn't limited to the Civic or asians (yes you know that's the stereotype) or whatever anymore.

AMEN to that!!! I've been wanting to say the same thing for a LONG time. I just didn't feel ,like typing a lot as you did. I'm glad someone else feels the EXACT same way I do.
BTW, a lot of ppl say Civic drivers are "stuck up". I see just as much "stuck up" MP3 drivers as I see with Civics. The car doesn't make the persons personality.

To me a ricer is a ricer, I don't care if he/she drives a protege or a civic or a focus. I think Honda makes fine cars and I have nothing gainst them.
But I agree with you, some people tend to be stupid about the whole civic/ricer thing.

I don't think people hate civics, they just hate the drivers of most . Now i myself like hondas i just hate people that put huge wings and stickers on for no reason. Or think they know everything about cars because they have a intake. My buddy once told me with his mods (intake and exhaust) he can allow his 2nd gen intergra to rev to 8000 RPM...With his white electrical taped wipers (to match his white tegra),Cut springs, Blown shocks,Led lights, Painted dash and seat covers he thought he could beat any car on the road. Thats what i hate. I hate civic owners that put on a few easy bolt ons and think they deserve cradit even though 20,000 other civics have done it in the past The reason i dont post about protege ricers is because theres not many proteges trying to get hooked up so i dont see riced out ones that much , But i see civics like 10 times a day
My roomate agrees on this (93 Honda Del Sol ) that he needs to do something different to get respect So we are swapping in a B20 (CRV motor) into his car this spring

i dont mean to single out our board, but i suppose its my only reference, but i have seen instances where people find these pictures of cars in the process of being done up, and they say "Well, this is stupid, who would try to do up this car, how ricey" and to me thats just not neccesary, modding an unusually car isnt stupid, its creative..its just my opinion we need to lighten up and repsect peoples rides however "ricey" you consider it...but i think we've seen everyones view here and its a pretty equally sided argument
