Would this be rice?

I was actually thinking about buying a yellow VW Beetle about 2 years ago, and putting a red "Transformers" cartoon logo on the hood like "Bumblebee" had in the cartoon back in the 80's. I was going to call the car "Bumblebee 2000". Would this be considered rice? Im just curious, since like most people say, its a matter of preference, its your car, do what you want to it. I do have to agree that people do overdo it, like putting a wing on the front hood of a honda civic... ???

Tell me what you think...

P.S. for those who dont know or dont remember Transformers, check this link out... LINK

Personally I aways considered doing things like that to be closer to the customizing side of it. I personally think big useless wings and single wipers to be just silly looking, regardless of what you call it (rice or not). I like the transformers idea. I say run with it.

The reason people "rice out" their cars with stickers and put stuff on that they dont have is because they watch TV and see all those NASCARS with stickers. They got the stickers on those cars, because they are sponsered by them so they gatta advertise them, but come on, do they sponsore you or something why do you gatta put all them stickers on?

etymology

Sorry folks, I'm new to the term "rice".

Can anyone accurately define what "rice" means in the context you're all using?

It sounds as if all of you are using it as both an adjective and a noun.

I'm deducing any mods to a car that is not practical but purely for vanity is considered "rice". Is that correct?

Or is any car mod that is not to your own personal taste, "rice"?

How did a carbohydrate dietary staple come to relate to the automobile?

Just curious.

That's just the way it is. Take this sentence for example: That ricer totally riced out his rice-mobile This actually kinda makes sense.
I think of rice as pointless senseless mods that make the car look fast when it really isn't. For example, parkbench wings on FWD cars, double or quadruple exhaust on a N/A 4 cylander, monstous exhaust tips when the actual manifold-back piping is only 2". Also, trendy useless mods like single wiper blades, altezza lights and asian character stickers are rice as well.

Then there are domestic rice when people do all these things to crappy domestic cars like cavaliers or sunfires. Go to a website like www.riceboy.com if you really want to know.

Hahahahaha

"Parkbench" spoilers. I love that description!!

Thanks for the crash course Shawn. I'll check out www.riceboy.com. I have to thank the ricers though for making our cars look good by comparison.

LOL!
It's funny how ricers say "My car handles better than yours". Huh?, Civics can handle!?

Civics have one of the weakest chassis of the econobox class. They once did a test with a 4 or 5th gen Civic in a Japanese magazine to test chassis rigidity. They took many right corners very hard and after a couple of hours, they measured that the chassis has be bent about 2mm, which is alot.

Ricers think that if you put super tight springs, dampers and enormous antiroll bars on a car, it will handle. Not true at all. IMO I think the chassis is the underlying foundations of ALL handling aspects of the car, not the springs or dampers or whatever. A car that has a good chassis can handle well, and a car with a crappy one won't handle as well as the one with the better chassis given the same suspension setup.

After looking through many reviews, I noticed that much of the Protege's handling capabilities is not due to only suspension setups but to more so to chassis superiority. People say the same about BMW cars, not that Pro's are BMWs, but it is often mentioned that Pro's are very alike to them in terms of neutral handling and chassis capabilties. Does the BMW 3 series have super tight springs and dampers? No, not at all.

People often say that the Sentra SE-Rv can corner faster than the MP3. Given its 28mm anti roll bars as opposed to MP3's 22 (I'm not sure about the figures so correct me if I'm wrong). Which car feels more neutral and poised in the corners? Alot of professional car reviewers say the MP3.

As for rice, this guy that lives near me has a Accord SIR coupe, and thinks his car is all that. He has aftermarket 15 inch rims on stock tires, because he could't afford bigger rims since he had to buy newer tires. Ricer loghts everywhere. A automatic shift **** mod. Neon all over the place and of course fart pipe. What I don't understand most is that he has an entire panel of stickers on his rear window. Sure helps out seeing whose behind you.
The entries include:

Bridgestone (the RE92's that come stock with the car. Not performance tires by any means.
Endless(wtf is that?!)

and I don't remember the rest. Is it really necessary to advertise all the mods on a car, despite how minor and even stock parts?

If I were to do that here's what I would have

Dunlop (tires)
Calsonic ....oooo....(radiator)
Castrol(engine oil)
Tokico(shocks)
Ractive(intake)
Bosch(wipers and spark plugs)
KN(filter)
Panasonic(stereo)
and even Piaa (light bulbs)!
