It's like "all the captains in Starfleet gathered..."
and "he gave the phaser to Captain Picard..."
Messed up, eh?

I was listening to Rush Limbaugh (aka Dumbass) railing about this today. Damn pointy headed liberals are leading the world to ruin. **** like that.
Its not really so upsetting that this happened. I think it is more upsetting that "They", by which I mean all of those religious zealots who go out to abortion rally's and say "No abortion" because OUR God does not allow that, didn't have a chance to protest and bitch before the decision was made.
PS: I don't really like "God Bless America" or "America the Beautiful" either. God and Government need to get a restraining order. Just like God and science (I love dinosaurs too, even live with one (heh heh heh, got away with it)).

wouldn't it be so much easier to pass a bill and let the kids say whoever it is they "believe" in when the line comes up?
...and to the republic for which it stands, one nation, under ________(insert name here)...
-god
-buddha
-joe smith
-money/greed
-britney spears

Or as an option:
One nation over Britney.
- OR -
One nation under Britney and her identical twin.
- OR -
One nation watching Britney have a pillowfight with her 30 clones.
- OR -
Sorry, all out of ideas.

And, frankly, I think upholding the Bill of Rights is a *very* American thing to do. Government-sponsored religion is what strikes me as unamerican.

can anyone please tell me how one phrase ("under god") is religious? when kids say "god-damn" in school, are they being religious? or how about when a kid misses a free-throw in a pick-up game in the schoolyard and says "jesus christ, that f#ckin' basket is too small!" should their speech be banned from school? or perhaps removed? the church ain't getting money from the state, and the state ain't getting money from the church. what's the big deal? there are more important issues at hand.
again, i say focus all this well-meant energy to solving the things that end children's lives, like guns, and violence and drugs. let this "pledge-issue" ride for now and when we get the other stuff fixed, then we can use our leftover energy to tackle this "non-constitutional" crap.

no...I believe that this has NOTHING to do with seperation of church and state.....just the judicial system trying to be as neutral as they can possibly be and forgetting how and why this great country came to be in the first place, however....our forefathers went to great lengths to ensure or freedoms....and to seperate church and state....for it was that very thing that primarily drove them from their homes and brought them here to bring to life this great country....
If you want to read a very good article on this subject....and even get some insite on the Pledge itself....check out this page.
