not true, and besides it's only a one way Walkie talkie (you can only hear or talk at one time, not one or the other.) Just for your information Verizon is coming out with full duplex walkie talkie phones at the end of the summer. And their network is a lot better than Nextel's

yeah true...but i know they make a big deal out of the fact that you'll always reach the person rather than their voicemail.

I didn't want to start a disagreement Bruce. But at the end of the summer there is going to be some rather big changes in the cell phone industry. BTW, I sell wireless service and Verizon's main targets are the 10 million Nextel customers (as soon as they go duplex) Didn't mean to step on any toes, but this is what I do for a living.

I personally love nextel. I really don't have any Quams with them and also their customer service is unmatched by any company out their..... Not even Verizon can touch them -- no offense-- ... I have delt with so many companies ... and experienced some crappy service.. Sprint is the worst at Customer service

can u hear me now? ...good.

does anyone on the mainland have any problems w/nextel's ph reception? everytime i call my friends here it's "...please hold while the nextel subscriber u r trying to reach is located...please hold while the......"
maybe it's cause it's in the islands or something (mountains etc)
radio reception is great, but cell ph reception, not so great.

now worldwide direct connect would be awesome...

Nextell is advertizing nationwide one way "walkie talky." But it still travels over cell towers or RF repeaters and satellites like all regular cell phones. I think the only thing i'd use it for is long trips with friends. I'm sure its good for business people but not me.

Ok, I'm sure my opinion is going to be biased being that my dad is the "Regional Manager of Southern California Operations" or something like that. Anyhoot, verzion is no where near Nextel in anyway. I mean, Nextel has been working on worldwide even while they were starting Nation wide walkie talkie. My dad and I are both in the California Air National Guard and my dad works in the Communications Flight. All of his co-workers work for different companies and even the Verizon guys admit that Nextel has the heads up. All of them have thier own opinion and work for every company out here in So Cal and yet they all rock the Nextels. That in itself should tell you something.

Yes the other companies such as Verizon and Sprint are developing Walkie Talkie functions, but they can't keep up with Nextel. Nextel does have a delay in response time, but as of this date Verizon's delay is much worse. Sprint shouldn't even be considered because there is talk that Sprint is in big trouble and in a few more years will end up like Worldcom.

Nextel is also target toward more Businesses than us right now. They do have something for the younger folks like myself (Boost Mobile) and because of this Nextel is starting to get overloaded with customers. Everyday they have to expand to meet the demands of the customers, which means creating more switchrooms and so forth.

Just my 2 cents.

isn't that funny too since the big wireless companies (and even the small ones) all share the same equiptment. Although maybe the people who own the towers are shooting the competition in the foot???

I have verizon for my work cellphone, and ATT for my personal cellphone (my only phone).

I like ATT because I never have any reception issues, although I get weird roaming things every so often, but they're easily taken care of. The only thing that pissed me off with ATT so far is that they made me start paying for text messages without my knowledge... Oh welll

As for Verizon, the service/reception seems to be pretty good. I do think, however that my phone sounds like ****... But I'm pretty sure it's the phone, not the service... It's a Motorolla t720, and it's much nicer than my Nokia 3360, but it sounds like crap in comparison.

My Nextel was great for a while. The service (cell) has been a little wierd lately. The two-way works fine.
