New guy here/First Mazda EVER

Hello all.

To start off I am a HARD CORE HONDA guy. Never wanted anything but.

Well, after many, MANY years of loyal service, my Accord died.

Money is really tight so I took our Tax money and got a 93 Protege. Got it from a friend of my father-in-law.

It seems to be a good little car. I don't know ANYTHING about Mazdas I came here to learn.

So...SELL me into keeping this car What can I do with it? How can I fix it up (NO RICE), what can I do to make it fast.

I have been borwsing around here for a few days and been reading some, but not much.

Our car looks EXACTLY like the one in sweetprotege93's Sig only stock of course. Same color, and everything.

Things I like about the car:

It's an import. Beats driving the oldsmobile we were driving.

It's small.compact. see above.

Things I DON'T like:

The automatic seatbelts. I did so much work to my Accord and removing thoes damn auto belts and replacing them with regular belts was the best thing I did. guess I'll have to do the same to this one.

The "HOLD" button. Whats that, Mazads answer to the Sport mode in the Accord? Would be a great thing if it worked the same way, but from what I can see it works the oppisite way. what "HOLD" on it shifts the tranny at lower RPM's where in the Accord, the "Sport" on it hold the tranny and shifts at higher RPMs. So I leave the "HOLD" off.

Please don't misunderstand my coments as being dorogitive toward Mazda, Rember I come from MANY years of working on HONDA's and this is my first Mazda.

Thanks

Welcome to Protege Club!

I'd like to be able to answer your questions, but I have no experience with your model year (I have a P5).

Stick around though, there are people with the same car as you...they should be able to point you in the right direction.

i had a 94 champange protege DX before my 02. that thing was a real screamer, not a lot of Hp but it had the torque and lightweight to take on the ricers in newer civics here. have fun with the car man, it was always good to me.
