New car dilemma

So, with all the talk I have heard about killer deals on Mazdas right now, I talked the gf into at least looking at some with me. She has been wanting an RX-8 for a while, I have filled her in on the problems that have been happening. When we were on MazdaUSA's site we watched the Speed3 "Wild Child" video, and she then said that car was cute and was her (I know, but I do love her). So that is now on the list. Finally, I have lusted for both an RX-8 and a Speed6 but now I am leaning towards the 6. Of course any purchase will be predicated on the deal we can get (looked at an '06 RX-8 Shinka edition today, $35k list but the guy said he would do us a good deal. Didn't waste my time pinning him down on his definition of that). We are planning on driving some tomorrow, so far only one dealer in the area has the Speed3 in stock and I don't know if they will allow test drives.

So what do you all think? Would that I had the money to buy two new cars! Hey, anyone want to buy some kids?? Wide variety, some with low miles!!

I'm lovng my speed6...if you get one make sure to NOT let them reflash it. It kills the bottom end.

I've had a 3S, Speed6 and RX8...the rx8 blows them all away. Now the MS3 will be faster than all 3 but it's a smaller car and AWD is a costly addition that you'd almost get for free by buying the 06 vs the 07 ms3.

Just be prepared....the gas mileage in the rx8 was about 17mpg average with a best of 20mpg.... the Speed6 so far gets about 22mpg average..pounding the **** out of it. I'd figure the MS3 would get slightly better (not lugging around 600lbs everywhere it goes.)

Stopped on the way home from a band competition tonight at the dealer I have had some correspondence with (their Internet sales) and test drove a couple of cars. They had a Speed3 Grand Touring on the floor, but it was already sold. Having sat in it the gf is now convinced that is "her" based upon the flash.

Drove an RX-8 first. Awesome car, couldn't press the handling much due to the location but I did tap into the stability control while getting on the freeway. Decent power, nice interior and held up well over rough roads. We did agree that in reality it wasn't that practical for us now (due to all the kids we have).

Speed6 next. I am in love. Power is incredible. It was dark and lots of traffic so I couldn't mess around too much but I did hit it a time or two. I now understand the talk about the clutch (it was almost like a switch, off/on. Made it hard for a smooth takeoff). For me the accoutrements were nice, the gf thought it was plain. Although she did think the stereo kickin'! Didn't spend a lot of time there (by design) but the numbers they ran showed a price of $26,000. Going to check a couple of other places to see how low I can get it. I will say, if there is any way possible, I will have one. Black cherry mica GT w/sunroof. I'll let you all know.

I looked over the pricing we got from the dealer. Did some calculation, the monthly payments they quoted were way out of line for the price and current interest rates available. Based on what I can get from my bank, their monthly was over $200 more than it should have been (even using a rate of 23% it didn't come close to their monthly). I just sent them an e-mail stating my disappointment and that I would not do business with a company that was so obviously out of line. We'll see what the response is. I have also gotten in contact with one of the other local Speed dealers to see what they will offer. I have never been good at haggling, but I am starting to enjoy this!

if you REALLY want a speed6 you should contact either Roger Beasly Mazda in texas or Jim ellis Mazda in atlanta/alpharetta.

Both dealerships are selling their speed6's for 25% off msrp...in my case that meant a $29K MS6 only costs $21,750...

Don't EVER let a dealer sell you a car based on the payments...they add in all sorts of **** to make them more money. HAggle the price down as much as possible, do the same with your trade...prvide your own financing and just accept whatever the payments are. That's how you get the best deal.

And just to chime in I'd say the average I've seen an MS6 go for these days is about 23k.
21.7 is a great deal, Matty.
At 26k I'd be walking away, though, chief.

Thanks for the input guys. Current situation won't allow me to traipse around the country to get a car, if I can't get a good enough deal locally then I won't buy one. I just had a second dealer send me their price, came in around $26,000 also (GT w/sunroof). So now I will see how I can play them and get a further reduction. Like I said, I am not too good at this but as my dad always said, I don't need to buy a car but they need to sell them.

You don't have to go anywhere...Contact the dealership on the phone. Have them fax over the paperwork and add in a $450 trucking fee to have the car delivered..or usually $250 to have it driven (not recommended).

I bought a car from south mississippi that way and just paid to have it brought over. Easiest way to do it. Only do this if you know EXACTLY what you want. Nothing sucks more than buying a new car if you're not sure about it yet.

p.s. My speed6 had it's share of highway victims today. I had some encounters with unsuspecting speeders on I85 and needless to say I didn't lose to anyone that would play with me. The guy in the 80's 911 wouldn't even look over at me.

kills:
240hp Accord 6spd v6
talon TSi (fmic)
sentra SE-r specV (most embarassing)
several suvs

It's a very quick car and I've only got an intake on it right now....still waiting for my other goodies.

I wasn't aware of the ability to have a car trucked. Trust me, I know exactly what I want. Checked out Roger Beasley today, they have the color I want but with white/black leather interior (don't think that would look too good). However I did quote their price to the second local dealer after I was done for the day. I told him I could buy a lot of gas and a plane ticket for the difference between his price and theirs. Can't wait to see how much of a hornet's nest that stirs up!

My gf still wants a Speed3, even though I have explained to her there will be no way to get one for the price of a Speed6 right now (the one dealer informed us that there will be no test drives, due to it being a rare car and the buyers not wanting any miles on them. She told me that it was like a Porsche in that you can't test drive one of those either. Needless to say I won't buy anything from those clowns). However, she wants a sunroof which isn't offered so I think she has convinced herself to wait and see if one is offered next year. Personally I doubt it as I think the car would lose too much structural integrity, but who knows. She didn't test drive the Speed6, I think once she does she will forget (mostly) about the Speed3.

don't EVER buy from a dealership that won't let you test drive the car first. I went to porsche and test drove a $80K Cayenne Turbo with nothing more than my drivers license and insurance card....it's a TAD fancier than a speed3.

Your dealer sounds like a dick. You should buy me a plane ticket and have me come up there and work the deal for you. I'll make them cry before it's over.

Yeah that dealer has been filled with idiots for years (I first went there fresh out of college to check into the first gen RX-7, salesman gave me some song and dance about the Chevy dealer had their demo to figure out why people bought them instead of Corvettes. I finally blew him off). Funny thing is, so far I have gotten no response from them about my e-mail where I called them on their outrageous monthly for the Speed6. Luckily I have several Speed dealers to chose from in my area.

I love getting the run around from dealers and them letting them in on the fact that I know more about how their pay works then they do.

Wow.

Why is the selling point so low (the 25% off) for such a sweet car? I don't get it. I mean, it goes from being class competitive to beyond a bargain...

Either way, definitely way to go on getting the good deal for one.
