Thumbs up Mazda vs. VW

Hey, I just bought an MP5 to replace my beloved '83 Scirocco. I have a family now and we needed a car where the backseat passengers don't have their knees in their chest while shouting to be heard. I test drove a lot of cars to see which had just the right feel. (Matrix, elantra GT, etc.) I even liked the MP5 over a new Golf. Only time and a lot of miles will prove if my new baby has the ability to read my thoughts like Sharkey could. I just thought I'd see if anyone else had any comments on this subject.

cars on my list when i wanted a new car

Matrix XRS - over priced, looks funky, 4 x4 style suspension

VW Jetta Wagon 2.0 - couldnt find the right one and the VW dealers gave me that whole "yeah, i got better stuff to do" attitude, I dunno 115HP compared to 130, big and boxy, sleek and stylish, many many more standard things on the P5, 16 valves - 8 valves, I couldnt afford the 1.8T, if i could, it wouldnt have many options on it. Mazda made me a better offer also.

Protegé5 - look at sig!

i dunno why, but i wanted a wagon as my 1st car, and I'm 19 btw, Wagons are more practical i guess, haul a bunch of shieet to the car show to set up the booth, and still be able load up 3 buddys. throw a BMX bike in the back, skateboard, NX bottle, Subs, Dead body i mean ummm no, no dead bodies .... uhhh *hides*

Thumbs up exactly

You expressed pretty much the way I feel. I have a friend who works a a VW dealer and could've gotten me a pretty good deal on a Jetta wagon but god, they have no style. I know that isn't the most important thing, but combined with the extra HP and a ton of other features the MP5 won.

VW Jetta's and Golfs are nice, but they seriosly need to drop that damn 2.0 engine. Only 8 valves, seriosly old design, and known for its oil consumption problems!! Doesn't make too much power either.

If VW dropped that engine, gave me the 1.8T as the standard (heck, even the 1.9TDI), and rework the archaic boatish suspension, I'd love have a Jetta/Golf.

I like the VWs as well. They styling is kinda of bland for me, but they're good reliable cars. Plus, the 1.8Ts are freaking crazy mod-machines. You should have went for a Jetta 1.8T if you were interested in getting a FAST car... A $500 chip = 30 whp...

But then again I love mazda, and not everyone NEEDS that power. A P5 is my second choice for a car, I love them!

Yea, but I really wanted a wagon or hatchback. That's why I didn't go for the Yenta(I mean Jetta)http://www.protegeclub.com/forum/ima...es/biggrin.gif
