I'm a hardcore geek... (a geek is a nerd WITH social skills)
I've been programming for a living for 6 years.. programming for fun since I was 5 (basic at 5.. assembler at 6.. yes.. I was a strange child :) )... and I dabble in server/network admin and hardware both for fun and in my career.. been hanging around the net for 10 years.. Back in the day.. being a geek/nerd wasn't cool.. and now all you people who teased us have electronic bank accounts... bwahahaha :).. |
I'm a software developer for the Gov. as well!! I just had the one year anniversary for developing... yeah, I'm just a newbie at it and to Mazdas!!
|
I suppose you could consider me a computer geek, everyone else seems to make the generalization. My gf/fiance/wife or whatever she is always denies it.. it's called, well, denial.
here's my setup, I think it speaks for itself as to my geekness... http://www.outuvit.com/ibm/comp/image005.jpg http://www.outuvit.com/ibm/compsystem.jpg P4 2.6ghz clocked to 3.1ghz, case temp currently is 86F... don't ask :) My apartment is a hive of multimedia and computer systems, 3 desktops, 2 laptops (both from work, which is what I'm using right now), and everything is tied into my theater setup. Booya.. I'll get back to programming now. |

SO, basically what we are saying is with our combined resources, we can take over the world, start a kick a$$ e biz company so we can design and manufacture our own custom mods, BUT still have social live and be really really cool.:bt:

My workspace is fairly clean, I used to have some 1:18 cars in my office, but I like them better at home over my fireplace. Old office shot : http://www.outuvit.com/ibm/office.jpg |
I'm a geek, but I guess not quite so much as my competition. I'm definately a bevy of computer knowledge though. I'm an IT Technician for my local government (county level civil service). Right now I do lot's of hardware, network, and user support, and they're trying to get me into database design/administration. Fun stuff. :D

I guess I can call myself a computer Enthusiast. I just love reading about all the new technology. I have a p3 1GHz, nvidia GF3, and 384Megs of ram. I love computers, don't get me wrong. But, I don't see any reason upgrading every 2 seconds or something. Nothing special is happening in the industry as we speak anyway.

I am a computer geek. I built about 4 computers, and everyone comes to me when they have a computer question.
I am in front of the computer most of the day. I design seafood processing equipment (automatic shrimp peelers, cookers, etc). I didnt see anyone list a Commadore 64/128 in there computer history! The C64 was my first computer :D |

Well, I'm not a Protege owner, but...
I just turned 19 yrs. old. I am an IT Technician for Science Applications International Corporation. I do web design on my own and have done some programming. Took 2 years of Cisco training in high school and have done loads of networking. I was teaching myself how to program when I was 7 or 8 (BASIC). I am working on designing a video game ( http://home.earthlink.net/~fyrelance/infiltration ), I do graphic design and am fairly familiar with Photoshop, and I create electronic techno/trance music (http://www.mp3.com/david_michael ). My list: The Past: -Commodore 64 (First computer ever, taught myself BASIC on it), had literally THOUSANDS of programs for it, now have emulators with over 4000 ROMs for it. Was very upset when father got rid of the original machine though.) -286 IBM PC/Compatible @ 10MHz, 8MB RAM, w00t! -386 IBM PC/Compatible @ 33MHz, 16MB RAM, w00t w00t! -486 IBM PC/Compatible @ 50MHz, 16 upped to 32MB RAM -Pentium 233MHZ / 32MB RAM -TRS-80 picked up at a garage sale for the heck of it. Never really understood the point of those things... -Cyrix 3??MHz that the fan died on, the chip overheated and fried my machine, lol. -AMD K6-2 350MHz self built -Apple Macintosh LC475 @ 25MHz -Apple Macintosh Clone @ 120MHz -AMD Athlon 600MHz 256MB RAM self built Currently Owned: Apple Macintosh IIcx (out of commission but kept around just because :) ) Apple Macintosh 8600 (needs power supply or something...) Apple Macintosh 7200/75MHz Apple Macintosh clone @ 120MHz Apple Macintosh Performa 6100 with 275MHz G3 upgrade card Celeron 433MHz overclocked to 488MHz, 128MB RAM Hewlett Packard / self-modified/molested Compaq Armada laptop @ 166MHz / 1 gig HD Compaq Armada laptop @ 166MHz / 3.4 gig HD Current main machine: Athlon XP 1800+ @ 1.53GHz with 256MB PC2700 RAM, RAID support, Gainward 128MB GeForce 4 3D accelerator, 6 ch. surround support (need speakers though...) . 118 gigs of hard drive space. Self built. I think I got 'em all... let's not even get into game consoles. ;) And my favorite of the bunch? The good ol' Commodore 64, baby!!! |
( the older machines make great Starcraft, Warcraft II, Diablo machines for LAN gaming. :D )

Oh...on video game systems Atari 64 8 bit nintendo Super Nintendo Sega Gensis (burned it out) Neo Geo (traded to a pawn shop) Playstation Playstation 2 Xbox Has anyone tried the watercooled set up...(I think Koolance is the vendor) |

Is that the old one station with the paddles and dials...and the games are only in Black and White...PONG?
|
Originally posted by SEA_P5 You mean overclocking... Has anyone tried the watercooled set up...(I think Koolance is the vendor) I was going to building my own water cooling rig, but decided the expense just wasn't worth it...nor the hassle. I've pretty much given up on the quest for a bad ass computer. Hell I've had my current machine in pretty much the same configuration for over a year (with the exception of the video card), and I barely use it as it is. Jay |

Okay so I am an engineer and on my machine a lot during the day so does that count for any geekness?
Hey Jay you know reading that list was getting me excited :D. You know like the Tim the Tool Man Taylor, Ho, ho, ho, ho, ho, ho. I actually know what most of that list means so that must count for something. :D |
