So true. I run my towers either w/ one panel off or no screws for easy accessibility. LOL

I work at a helpdesk for a company in Calgary(canada). We support a number of large oil companies and a few american chemical and industrial companies as well. Used to be a total geek in my high school days. Had my own ftp warez site going even on a 33.6k dial up modem. I turn it on between midnight and turn it off after i get up to goto school...LOL. Dabbed a little in basic, vb, turbo pascal and a little DOS scriptiing. I'd rather do desktop support. Also have experience in intermediate networking in Windows and Novell 4.11. Avid HalfLife and TFC online player, as well as quake 3. No RPG's and RTS's. I also dabble into a little 3d studio Max for animations and I love video editing w/ Adobe Premiere (biking videos). Yep, I spend 12 hours on the computer at work but only work 14 days out of the month plus get a week off every month, and barely any stress on the job. I'm loving it right now. Could use a raise though.

i'm a jack of all trades and a master of none.
i can build a computer, which i'm doing right now actually, but a computer geek? i would never have the audacity to claim i am.
i know my way around one tho.

Hmm... i hope you're listing computers only cuz you're interested in what others have had.. and not trying to compare the size of your **** =)

I mean.. lots of times it's what's given to you. Unless of course you are like 45 yo so you've bought all those computers yourself. =)

My family never really had the money.

So here are my computers:

8088 8 mhz, 640k, 5.25" DSDD (first system.)
386DX-33 (got stolen 1.5 years after I had it)
486DX-33 (insurance replacement)
K6 200
K6-2 450

That's all. I believe geekiness is what u've done to/with your computers (and the sheer amount of time u spent doing it) and not what you've owned. It's like saying "I've had a porshe, ferrari, lotus, etc. I'm a car expert" for a bad analogy.

(yes i'm trying to justify myself)
Anyhow.. i used to be a computer geek ever since i got my XT (9 yo). Did basic until i got my 386. Then I started doing asm and vga hw stuff. Did some demos and bbs ads back then.

University effectively killed my geek factor. =) And I'm glad. I'm a much more well rounded person =P hahahaha.

And now I've been working for a video game company =)
(reason for only having a k6-2 450. Nice computer at work)

you gotta have support for ALL mediums when having lan parties
that means you need

gigabit/100/10 cable speeds
wireless A/B/G band support
bluetooth support

year old thread... oh well.

I'm pretty knowledgeable about computers but i do labor for money (mostly painting).

I had an office job last year and it drove me crazy, I'd much rather be working with my hands. Plus it builds the muscles and helps with the tan. :D

at first i had an office job.. got sick of it.. then i worked outside... got sick of it.. now i have an office job again and i love it LOL
