man is it me or is it hot in here....

i would have to agree that GM is far from hurting. Sure Oldsmobile is gone and Buick is on its way out and Pontiac isn't having any luck but look at Cadillac, Hummer, Saturn, and all the others. They're still going strong

Saab, Hummer and Opel have all gone WAY down rcently. Hummer started off very well, but due to horrible quality control issues has taken a nose dive (that and gas prices). I think Cadillac is doing well with their escalade, but thats about the only new caddy I see on the road. I don't know about Saturn....I heard they are doing ok, but they are considered the entry-level arm of GM....very low profit margins on their product..

All of this is a mute point. The GTO is going to turn out to not meet expectations just like the SSR.

I repeat: GTO = 2 Little 2 Late

i totally agree. the GTO will most likely flop. The new GTO could have been a great thing but GM just didn't do good enough

I feel the same way about the current Malibu...what a tub.

My roommate in college had an orignal Malibu and that thing was awesome....big V8, RWD, plenty of room, made of steel....now what re they?? FWD V6's with cramped interiors...

Maybe Ford should borrow this idea and make the next mustang a Mid engine- Front wheel drive V-2 with one rear wheel.

Get your facts straight, your head out of your butt and either enjoy this forum or go to the GTO forum.

I go to the races every weekend and I live in Alabama. I know a thing or two about the redneck racer crowd and NOT one GTO has been there. I don't expect to ever see one there. It's more of an upscale cruising rocket than a sports car. I don't remember seeing it advertised anywhere as a sports car.

GM is far from hurting?? Oldsmobile is out of business.....Buick isn't far behind them....Pontiac had tanked there last 3 models and GM has abandoned the camaro/firebird with NO replacement. You think sales of the malibu and cavalier are enough to keep 3 automakers afloat. Oh and also the F-150 has outsold the chevy's for like the past 10 years according to the magazines.

Let me know when you get the chip off your shoulder because I don't like the GTO.

Plenty. I know people who already have. Why do they have to be a "BUBBA"? Yea, lots of rednecks in Alabama, but still people down there who CAN afford a GTO and WILL take them to the track. Go look at the one at www.bmrfabrication.com and see what they are running with theirs. They are in Florida. Trust me, it ain't slow. I have owned 2 LS1 cars. I know how they go. How many have you owned?

Are there corvettes at your track? Do they cost more or less than a GTO?

LOL, again, you need to get your facts together. GM Is in GREAT SHAPE. Yea, olds was killed YEARS ago. Buick is doing just fine. Pontiac and Caddy are on a HUGE turn around with great new products.

Current Malibu is a great car. Just behind the Accord.

When you get your facts straight I might get the "chip" off my soulder, ok?

You can misquote me and repeat your previous statements all you want, but the fact is that you're outnumbered here.

I'm not going to argue with you anymore because it's obvious you're a troll who knows nothing about the financial status of GM nor can realize the fact that the GTO is a bomb. Look at GM's projected sales and look at how many they've made. Point made.

If you're such a Pontiac fan why not go to a pontiac forum instead of sitting here and trying to convince us that GTO is anything other than a piece of crap. We don't want to hear it.

Well if you like the new GTO or not, they won't be around very long. Here's a quote from Car and Driver Dec 2003: "And if you still don't like the GTO, it'll be gone soon. Chief engineer Bob Reuter says the company plans to sell the $33,000 GTO for just three model years at the rate of 18,000 per year. After that, who knows?" So with only 54,000 cars planned for production over three years, what will that do for GM? Not much. GM has probably sold that many Cavaliers already this year!

Why don't you try and answer some of my questions? Wow, best argument/comback you have is that I am outnumbered? LOL

No, not a troll. This is OFFTOPIC correct? I registered to learn about my GF's car, a Protege. But when I see a GTO thread, I feel compeled to give my 2 cents. But since you can't answer a few simple questions, I have the feeling you are the troll who just doesn't like the GTO and goes off spouting huge inacuracies about GM.

They are making 16K GTO's this year. THey lost 2K in the learning process of importing cars to the states. The contract with HOLDEN is 3 years. After that the GTO will be built in the States.

If you don't want to hear it, why let the thread continue? This is off topic after all. And I am on plenty of Pontiac/LS1/LS2 message boards. Thanks for asking though.

YOU aren't the problem. OT conversations are very cool and welcome here. In fact I started one about the new Mustang. The difference is when people told me they didn't like the new mustang I didn't argue/name call/instigate problems. I just accepted the fact that mine wasn't the only opinion.

MrGTO comes along and immediatly jumps on the defensive because some of us protege owners think the GTO is a land-mass of worthless crap. So now he feels he has to "correct" us through a series of useless comments about how many forums he's on, how fast people are driving in them etc.....I simply suggested to MrGTO that if he was so passionate about the GTO and we obviously knew nothing about it then maybe his time would be better served over on another forum.

MrGTO: I won't close the thread down because the thread starter has not caused any problems....there is no reason to shut it down. Also, picking a fight with a moderator/vendor on a forum when you're a newbie is never a smart thing to do either. Burning bridges before you get to them is a stupid thing to do.

Rod, if htey were useless comments, you would be able to refute them. You haven't. Nuff said.

Why spend time on other boards when I can correct the ignorance here? And yes it is ignorance because you have YET to answer my questions.

I am not starting a fight with anyone. Just asking some questions. If you think you have been owned by the newbie here, be a man and say you were wrong and we can let it drop. OR answer myquestions.

I'll answer your questions and provide you with a warning at the same time. This forum is not for arguing or instigating problems. If you continue you'll be banned.

#1. No I have not owned any LS1's. I don't have a desire to. I prefer a smaller engine making more power through technology than using the same old big V8....it's tired, try something new.

#2. I have seen one vette at my track, yes it cost more than the GTO, yes it's faster and yes it got it's *** handed to it by a volkswagon golf....p.s. Yes it was a Z06 also.

Do not be a problem maker. We don't put up with blatently argumenative people who "troll" for a fight and that is what you're doing.

You you can have an opinion and I can't is that it? Or is it you were proven wrong and you don't like it?

OK, what motor have you owned that makes 300+hp at the rear or Front wheels bone stock?

I never said there weren't faster cars, Just pointing out that despite your claims people do own and race more expensive cars than the GTO. And if you have time, go check out the July '04 issue of High Performance Pontiac. Evan Smith drove both the GTO and Mach 1. Basically the Mach 1 was a few thousands quicker and the GTO had a higher trap speed despite being 300-400lbs heavier.

Now if you want to talk facts, lets do it. If you want to talk BS, I will call you on it every time, especially when it comes to the GTO.
