I used to be hooked on Agatha Cristie when I was 13.....
I also loved the book on which a movie was made recently, the Count of Monte Cristo......
haven't seen the movie yet though.

Phillip K. Dick- Any of his books are worthy
Tom Holt- take every fairy tale and myth and legend(religion included) and smash them,adjust them and generally take an askew look at them.Hilarious!
Tom Clancy- Duh....
Robert Conrad- Heart of Darkness & other tales(dated but interesting)
Eric Idle- The Road to Mars(yes Monty Python's Eric Idle)
And a whole lot more(I like to read)
