Unhappy Ever Driven UNDER a Ford Ranger??? In your P5???

Have any of you fellow P5ers gotten in a wreck yet??? well this past saturday, I did, I was just out for a saturday morning cruz, following behind a Newspaper Delivery Truck (Ford Ranger) when he decided to STOP DEAD IN FRONT OF ME!!! , come to find out he was making a suddon stop so that he wouldn't pass his next place of delivery..... SO with a car to the left of me and a curb and fence to my right there was no where for me to go but under!!!!! I will be finding out exactly the damage this afternoon and I will post pictures later!!! Airbag didn't go off, (Full FRONT Impact) So mazda will be hearing from my Lawyer I'm Ok, but my baby is trashed!!! My hood folded up like an acordian to the windshield and everything else in front was smashed 2, We'll See, I'll keep everyone posted! on the car, it will be this afternoon before I find out if it's totaled or not...

Sorry to hear about your car. If you're front bumper went under the Ranger's rear bumper, as I suspect it did, I'm not surprised that the airbag didn't deploy. Your headlights, radiator, fenders, hood and engine probably absorbed much of the impact.

Were you injured?

if you're lowered, no surprise you went under the truck. and mazda is going to point to the coilovers as the reason. you altered the vehicle, basically negating the way mazda intended it to operate.

it sucks and i'm sorry about the car, but to get the lawyers on mazda isn't going to do any good.

Unhappy As far as being lowered.

Yah I'm lowered and Yes I did alter the suspention! BUT.... My front bumper STILL was hit, it actually hit his Rear AXLE (witch is now Yellow) and I've never herd of lowering a car and having that change how the airbag deploys, Who knows though, yes it changes the height of in witch a vehicle would colide, but had I hit a car the damage probably would have been the same as me hitting the truck, Seings how even the Fog Lights had even been broken,

Oah and I am Ok for now, Slight back pains, but they say I'll be ok!!!

Most airbags these days are set to go off only above certain speeds as low speed deployment causes more injuries than it prevents. If you weren't going that fast, chances are that is the reason it didn't deploy.

Stocker.

I was going 45 in a 45??? as well as slowed down before impact??? also I don't think I mentioned that I think it tried to deploy but it did not, when I look at the steiring wheel now, the airbag is not alligned, it's almost as if it deployed but did not break out....????? Usually theres about 1/4 inch in between the stearing wheel and the airbag, but now it looks as if is broken or twisted.... Guess I'll find out soon.....

HAHA HAHA Very Funny.... That would be the case had he not SLAMMED on his Brakes in front of me leaving me no where to go... (Left - Cars) (Right - Curb, Brick Fence) I know I'm partly to blame because I was the car in the rear, but had he not braked so hard in front of me I may have been able to slow down enough to switch lanes.

Wait! A Ford Ranger was able to out brake your Protege?

No, still doesn't make any sense.

Or were you just not paying attention?

Accidents happen, give the guy a break. Hopefully his insurance company will Anyway, glad you're ok. Keep us posted if you do in fact go after Mazda for the airbag deal, I'm kind of interested in seeing how that pans out.

OMG That's awful!

I've never seen a hood so wrinkled.

Hope you get it all recovered soon.
