If you want the death penalty to be a TRUE deterrent to crime, it NEEDS to be PUBLIC and TELEVISED.

It won't help everyone, but for sure at leat one or two mofukkers will think twice if they see what it looks like.

And down with "soft" capital punishment, also. Bring back the rack, boiling people in oil, and my personal favorite (don't know the "official" name) - the one where they'd tie a guy to four different horses (one on each arm and leg) and then slap them ponies, make them run away, and rip the guy to pieces - man, the old days were FUN!

But I am serious about the public execution thing - let's see it. Then maybe it'll mean something.

That would be called quartering, I mentioned it in my first post but added two other components. This "threesome" was very popular in the old days. I don't wanna post exactly what it was but I think you can figure out the hanging and quartering and the drawn has to do with losing one's manhood. If anyone is wondering how I know this stuff, no I am not some sick freak, I did my junior year research paper on old style capital punishment per my teacher's request, some interesting stuff.

I would defintly agree with the public executions, it would be a great deterent, the only problem is that in the past it has made some cultures immune to death and murder and actually led to a rise in crime. But I think we should give it a shot.

I don't know, I'd like to see some people on death row so I guess I'm for it but it would suck if someone that didn't deserve it got it....

A man that has assaulted many girls just got out and is a free man here in Vancouver after a few years of prison.... sucks hey?

the way I see it....if you are caught RED HANDED....in a 1st degree murder..... you deserve it...and you deserve it soon.

NO, sitting in prison rotting for the rest of your natural life is NOT good enough....for your victim didn't have that opportunity....and personally I don't like spending my tax dollars supporting them for the rest of their lives...regardless of how rotten it could/would be.

Just remember, an "impartial" jury of peers found O.J. Simpson to be innoccent... The Rampart scandal in LA showed that cops routinely lie and fabricate testimony... Fingerprint "evidence" is not an exact science...Our government can now hold "terrorists" (broadly-defined), incommunicado, w/o legal counsel, indefinitely. Our legal system is far from perfect, and usually performs well only for the highest bidder!

I do agree that it is a monetary drain on society incarcerating prisoners, but, enforcing the death penalty is expensive as well. Since prison does little to rehabilitate, perhaps having a system where prisoners actually do learn & use skills to earn credit for release- i.e. become useful to society. The money they generate should be applied to the victims, who more often than not, are left with permanent disabilities, huge debt and no future, except welfare or social security. This problem needs to be addressed before we even consider how better to punish criminals.

To add to the irony, all the funds from drug-confiscations, etc., NEVER go into victims' funds - instead, these monies are applied to new cop-gadgets and equipment. Gee, if i am a cop, what would be my focus? Chasing down serious, murderous offenders, where you might get hurt, or catching someone with drugs and getting a new patrol car?

I have no mercy for criminals. Lock them in a cell with bread and water for non violent crimes. ANYTHING with childern torture on public tv. Murder=death, rape=death. Anything else I will decide on a case to case basis.

In flordia now they are running ads for governer. One of them talks about makingf criminals serve at least 85% of there sentance, what the f**k is that. You did the crime now you have to aftermath of your actions. None of this getting out early ****.

Also I have to agree with the money thing, if you got it then you can buy your way out. If not plan on staying for awhile.

the only problem with that is that there are innocent people on death row. not so many now, as were back in the day, but i still belive criminals on death row deserve 1 or 2 appeals, which have to be completed withing 3 years. no 5 or 6 appeals over 30 years. it would speed up the system, and still keep those apposed to the death penalty happier than frying them the week after they are convicted....
Yeah, I am pro death penalty, I just worry sometimes about the person that is wrongly convicted That's what makes it uneasy sometimes.

I really don't like people who mess with kids though.

NoahMP5 - Like you said, if you have money you can get away with anything. So shouldn't that be resolved before we go executing a bunch of poor people? Is that fair to them? Until there is some fairness introduced into this system it needs to go on hiatus.

Our system is not perfect but I beleive its the best out there. You can't feel good about handing the death penalty to an innoccent man/woman, but you cant let crime go unpunished. Either way we lose.

It is better that 10 guilty people go free than one innocent person be unjustly punished.

I can't remember who said that but it is the cornerstone of our criminal justice system.

I beleive in death penalty, but I also beleive that they should be put out in the same manner in which they dealt out their punishment.
