Kramer was wayyyy worse. Prepare for a long story...
I came in with a print out from the "Mazda Maker" on www.mazda.ca. I put down the paper and said if they could give me the MSRP price I'd put down my deposit. (ES GT models were in high demand at this time) Ryan says that he has to get the salesmanage to approve the price. Well guess who the salesmanager is, yes, the ***** from the Tribute incedent! I should have just walked out but I did not. I said, give me this price and we have a deal. To make a long story short he started lying to me that he could not give me that price because of a number of factors. The worst of which was that he said that the destination fee from Vancouver to Calgary was TWICE what Mazda said on their web site! LIE!!! He also said they had a $500 paper work fee!!! After fighting with him for almost an hour we left. I was soooo pissed off that I just about canceled the whole new car wish.
Two days later I went into Northhill and talked to Bobby, what a great guy! He got us our car for MSRP plus included free wheel locks and a bra. The service there was excelent, the price was good, and the people were friendly. I would recomend them to anyone.
BTW - all 3 local dealerships are owned by the same guy, but the way they are run is drastically different!

Looks like we should start a new thread and forward a copy to Kramer. I too had an issue with the evil grey haired man. Only dealing with Sebastien made it worth while, plus the fact he's new to sales I got a GREAT deal! Anyhow the grey guy was ranting about how the car was going to be $26,000 cause there rare and thats msrp, so my wife hands him a printout off the mazda website... he leaves. Then comes back later, talking about finance rates... my wife does loans & investments for a bank.... he leaves. Must be the "old school" of sales.

Im out here in Winnipeg and we had 2 mazda dealers. Now a third opened. The third tries to sell there proteges at several hundred over msrp. I went to Jim Gauthier and the sales person i was dealing with got fired. Then some cheezy idiot replaced him who wouldn't take me seriously. At 18, not many sales reps actually listened to or even helped me. I went to gerry gordons and a guy named vince helped us out. he was nice and courtous. I ended up taking the first 5 spd 01 es gt in the city off their lot. And the best part, because i talked to the manager, i got the car for 21, 200 which at the time was 700 less then any other dealer in the city. You have to find some nice reputable sales people. Or someone who is new to the field. The new guys tend to sympathyse and help bargain with the slaes manager.

Personally, I've bought 6 new cars for myself and been involved with several others for my family and wife. I don't bother with salespeople at all anymore. Nothing against them, I know they're just trying to make a living, but I'm not willing to let it be at my expense. The salesperson has no authority to make any deal whatsoever, so they are a waste of time, IMHO. The decent salespeople run a good cop, bad cop routine with the sales manager. They are really friendly to the customer, pretend they want to get you the best price possible, and blame it on the sales manager who wouldn't agree to the price you want. Did you know most car salespeople only get paid a commission on how much above factory invoice they sell the car for? Now, I use the internet, or work directly with the fleet sales manager when I buy a new car. I tell them what I'm willing to pay, and leave them my information and tell them to call me if they want to sell the car. I don't want to waste a lot of time going back and forth over price and payments or other BS. They're getting paid to waste that time, I'm not. I've never bought a new car for more than a few hundred dollars over the dealers true cost, not just factory invoice, since my first purchase. I learned my lesson after the first one. Sorry for the long rant, but so many bad experiences have left me a bit angry at car dealerships and salespeople...

Obviously, there is a certain degree of mis-information about Canadian versus US model MSRPs.
As of today, via the US and Canadian Mazda home pages, here is the following build-it pricing:
US - Protege ES - base MSRP - $16,060 US (approx $25,100 Can)
Add ABS & Moonroof - $17,240 US (approx $26,950 Can)
Can - Protege ES - base MSRP - $17,995 Can (approx $11525 US)
Add GT pkge - $20,960 Can (approx $13,250 US)
Granted, we pay 7% GST (Alberta doesn't have PST), but this still has a Protege ES-GT (with ABS, 4-wheel-discs, 16" wheels, moonroof, & a/c) come in at approximately $14,200 US, nearly $3,000 US cheaper.
US - Protege-5 - base MSRP - $16,815 US (approx $26,275 Can)
Add ABS & moonroof - $18,315 US (approx $$28,620 Can)
Can - Protege-5 ES - base MSRP - $19,895 Can (approx $12,735 US)
Add moonroof & a/c - $21,695 Can (approx $13,885 US)
Granted, we pay 7% GST (Alberta doesn't have PST), but this still has a Protege-5 ES (with ABS, moonroof, & a/c) come in at approximately $14,860 US, nearly $3,400 US cheaper.
Even if you have to pay PST, imported cars are cheaper in Canada than in the US...we pay far less import duties than you do.
This is why the 20 or so extra VIN stickers & engravings appeared on US cars after NAFTA came into effect...to prevent cheaper Canadian market cars from being imported into the US.
