Canadian vs US

I read a post that said that pricing in Canada and the US is the same figure. If this is true and the MP5 is priced at roughly $19000 Canadian, then that would roughly be equivalent to $12000 US Dollars. Is this right? There has to be a catch. Do you have to pay a hefty price to bring a Canadian car to the US or something?

Can someone from Canada post the price they paid for their MP5 in Canadian currency?

WeeBieP5 October-12th-2001 06:36 PM

the base price for the P5 in canada is $19,895 Canadian dollars.

jking October-12th-2001 06:54 PM

Wouldnt there be some kind of importing fee?

WeeBieP5 October-12th-2001 07:36 PM

we get ABS standard though. And i must say I am glad the roof rack isnt standard here in Canada, I dont like it. The Tax REALLY does suck though, its killer. My P5 has both options here in Canada and I paid $21,700 Canadian dollars (before tax) for mine.

About the importing fee: We dont have to pay anything like that, cuz if we did than you would too, cuz the car comes from Japan not the US.

ZackyFarms16 October-12th-2001 07:40 PM

Well i think your comparing the wrong things in trying to figure out the difference in price. Im not exactly sure how it works but im guessing that there are obvious tarrifs on imports for both canada and the us. its not like the cars are made in canada and brought here to the US. The cars are shipped to the US and canada individually meaning that there are obviously going to be differences in tarrifs and that would drive up the cost. What i mean is you cant compare the prices from canada and the US cuz both countries im sure would have their own tarrifs for imports. And a MP5 is obviously an import. Hope this made sense, its just a hunch though. Peace...

hmm, i think i didnt say what i wanted to say quite right. I know that it will be generally the same prices n stuff but since its different countries and stuff it will be different freight costs and stuff like that so thats maybe why there would be a difference? i dunno, just trying to help. peace

Hello from Calgary... new to the forum. The price between US & Canada would equal about the same for the same optioned car. A friend of mine is an importer and he couldnt get me a better deal than I got in Canada. ($22,000) Kramer Mazda here has a GTR package that they've used on the Miata for some time. Mine is Blue, Monsterflow Intake, Leather Seats and Door Panels, Razo Ti pedals, Momo Shifter, and DTR exhaust. All from the Dealer an approved by Mazda Canada. (and no PST in Alberta)

P5 cost in Canada

In total, after all the taxes, here in Ontario, Canada. I paid 27,000$ for my P5. Mine is automatic with A/C and moonroof. No roof rack.

Hey Don668, I am in Calgary too! I got my Mp5 from Sunridge Mazda up in the NE, I was going to go to Kramer (closer to my house) but the salesguys never bothered to call me back when they got more in after I test drove one in June.

Speaking of which.... I test drove a Red 5 speed MP5 at Kramer in June just before the cars were coming in that had momo pedals, shifter, aftermarket wheels and an aftermarket intake, that your car?

Here are the things that I know thus far that are different between US and Can cars out of the box.

US cars have ABS with side air bags as an option, Can cars have ABS standard, but no side air bags.

US cars have a leather wrapped Nardi style wheel, Can cars have the same wheel without the leather wrap.

US cars have that god awful roof rack standard, Can cars thankfully do not have them, just the option to put it on.

So really, if you look at the price of US cars vs Can cars taking into account the difference in ABS and roof rack, the cars are going to be within a couple hundred in price give or take a few bucks dependant on exchange rate at the moment you check.

Hey Shawn,

No not mine. I've had mine for a couple of months now. (8000km)Mine is MidnightBlue with everything you mentioned, DTR muffler, leather, without the rims. (They put those onto a used RX7 they were selling.)
The intake seems to help, it comes from Autozeal on 16th Ave. Nice guys, they had it custom fabricated for the P5.

At Kramer I was dealing with Sebastien, great guy.

Still need another 30hp though!

Hi The MAN

I do understand your point about ABS. For 10yr. I drove for Laidlaw Waste and they sent us to Toronto for a performance driving course geared towards large trucks. Threshold Braking, (VERY IMPORTANT with air brakes!) skidpad both wet & dry etc. And for the longest time I didn't belive in ABS. Its been proven on dry pavement a good driver can stop his car quicker without it.

I do find the Mazda brakes set up very well though, I have yet to have the ABS kick in yet, even with panic stops. (old habits die hard :) ) Although I think they may come in handy when our snow hits.

I'd like the side air bags even with the added weight, but what I REALLY wanted was the chrome rims. Not availible here.

Also in Cowtown

Hi all! I'm in Calgary too. I just got my car at the beginning of the month in a midnight blue. I had the WORST expperience with Sunridge Mazda and I WILL NOT be going back there. If you want the customer service, go with North Hill. They are so nice there! I just wanted to add that I am SO glad Blue that the roof racks are only an option in Canada coz they are so awfull looking.
Anyhoo, see you all around Calgary...

Makaveli October-15th-2001 06:47 AM

Uh oh, us the Vancouverites have rivals in Calgary, better get to work and gather up some more members hehehe Blue

cowtown October-15th-2001 02:14 PM

Hey Protege5chick, who did you deal with up at Sunridge? I have had a very good overall experience with them, in fact I went with them over Northhill because Northhill was so small and they didn't seem to want to help me when I was wandering through the lot with my brother looking at cars, it took me going into the dealership and dragging out a salesguy to get any help. Kramer just dropped the ball entirely for me.

But at any rate, I dealth with Jeff up at Sunridge and him and the dealership in general were by far the main reasons why we dealt up there. There have been a few annoying things during the whole process, but it was likely to happen anywhere like when I was waiting for my A/C kit to come in (my car origionally didn't have an A/C kit installed, but I demanded one) so one had to be brought in from Japan, with the whole Sept. 11 thing it got delayed a bit, certainly not their fault!

My buddy Mike also bought a 2001 fully loaded ES from Jeff up there since he was so impressed with the service (and obviously the car) when he dropped me and my wife off there to pick up our car. He got his Pro a week after us and already has more miles! ;p

Heh, you know dependant on when you got your car, I think we may have been at the dealership at the same time at one point, I seem to remember Jeff mentioning something about a lady buying a blue Pro5 when I was there... ;)

Later,

Shawn

Hey Shawn,

Just a note. The manager at Kramer told me they own Sunridge too. Go fig. Tipical of salesmen to blow off customers that they figure wont buy, or are young, dont wear suits etc. I sell high end theaters and I couldnt tell you how many MAJOR deals I got by giving big demos to 16yr old kids. (who later brought in their dads) I helped a customer once in ratty jeans and found out later that he was owner of one of the largest oil drill bit suppliers in the world! Bought tons of stuff from me. Now I get to ride in all his cool cars!
Anyway, done anything to your P5?

Don
