yep...saw it tonight too....the 1/4 mile result wasn't surprising at all....if you have ever seen a jet start from a standing start...they are slugs....but once they get rolling....watch out...as the f-16 demonstrated.

they did this not to long ago with a twin turbo callaway vette too....same result.

I saw that tonight too. It was an F-16, not F-22.

Actually, I saw (IIRC) a Motor Trend episode on Speedvision about 3 weeks ago that pitted a Ligenfelter tuned Vette against an F-18.

Now, I may have been totally out to lunch at the time, but I swear they said the Vette hit 0-60 in 1.97 seconds...it annihilated the F-18 from the start.

Here's a forum I found talking about it:
http://www.battleboard.org/messagevi...&threadid=3329

I still think the jet would win over a full mile....like the guy on Ripley's said, "the jet just has too much thrust (over the car)."

Sorry bro, but an F-22 Viper/Raptor looks like this...Viper/Raptor , and the plane they had looked like this... F-16 Falcon .
I have a feeling that either the pilot's codename was "Viper" or maybe they nicknamed that particular plane, but I know it was an F-16.

You've got to be kidding me....Sigh...To prove myself right, it only took a second to do a search on the internet

http://www.canadiandriver.com/news/020329-1.htm

http://www.news24.com/News24/Wheels2...163739,00.html

http://www.drivingtoday.com/aol/news...-1845-driving/

BTW, the codename of the F-22 is the Raptor...not the Viper...I don't know where you got that from.

Here's a quote from an article:
"Billed as "Viper vs. Viper," the race pitted car against jet in a side-by-side, standing-start, 1/2-mile drag race on parallel air base runways.

Dodge Vipers raced the F-16 - nicknamed the "Viper" - to the speed at which the jet became airborne: approximately 240 km/h. The Dodge Viper covered the course in around 15 seconds"

Also, the F-16 is the Falcon...not the Viper. Not sure if it's changed or they just did that for publicity.

Seriously...do a search with any search engine.

Back in the day when the speed channel was speed vision, they did a similar test with an F1 car, and some sort of jet. I think it was an f-16 as well, or something. The F1 took it pretty good.

Vipers are just plain amazing, too!

when I was in the service I was in the Navy...and on Aircraft Carriers as well...the USS Enterprise to be exact....our flight boss had a good sence of humor....we took the ship into the shipyards at one time and did a complete rework of the catapults....he went out and appropriated an old Pickup and the air wing guys painted it gray...and put all sorts of the decals/markings you see on aircraft.....after the work was done and we were in the testing phase ..... the firs thing to go down the deck and off the end was that Pick up....it was a riot. but there is no doubt that was the FASTEST that pickup had ever gone!
