Defensive? I think you read too much into what I've written. Just because I have an opinion different than yours doesn't mean I am defensive.
I beleive in people's right to choose. Just because someone is weak doesn't mean they don't have choices. A world where someone can't make a choice would be sad to me. Free will and all that.
2nd point: While I seldom do watch TV, the constant media blitz promoting such programs reaches far beyond the confines of "the idiot box". I have seen promos, read articles, and, in fact, the issue is being discussed within this thread. The concept already nauseates me, why on earth then, would I need to actually waste my time attempting to "digest" this?
Valid point and that is your choice. I personally attempt to witness first hand what I judge. It doesn't always work out that way, I'm not perfect <gasp> I waste my time watching TV.
Your goal seems to be centered around picking apart my feelings on the matter. You should know that others do share my opinion (see Joe $$$ Thread), so while I am flattered by your attention, I am less- than-concerned with your argument. Perhaps you can try another avenue, and discuss the positive aspects of reality-based TV.
I don't think I ever said that reality based TV is good or bad. All I said that it was entertaining to some including myself. And I don't think that these people that appear on these shows are being taken advantage of. They wouldn't SEEK out these shows if there wasn't something in it for them. If they go on these shows because they are weak, then that is thier problem...this weakness is a personality flaw that they have to deal with.

Nope I am not looking for a fight. Perhaps I am being a bit defensive myself, since it seems like you singled out my remark, solely, rather than the mass of similar responses as a whole.
Why would I fight with the Canadians? I really enjoy the socialist perspective from up North!
In all fairness, I would suppose the cooler climate would force one into more TV viewing and other indoor activities. Thus my comment was not to inspire hurt feelings but more or less a commentary on the degeneration (as i perceive it) of society at large.
