Unhappy Almost said hello to the rear end of an F250...and almost got myself killed today..

Well i was Driving to a friends house from school and he was driving his S10 and i was in the all famous Protege, well we get to double lanes, and there is a car beside me and nathan is in front of me I finally see a gap between his truck and the car so i slide thru it and im doing about 45-50 at this point and i see the redlight turn red and i start to slow down and this Lifted F250 pulls into the lane im trying to stop in so i push the brakes harder and my wheels lock up and next thing i know smoking wheels loud squeeling and then he pulls back into his lane, (wonders if he did that on purpose.) then i look over once i am stopped and i see a cop stopped with someone on the side of the road...well, I think i cleaned my brakes and they may have been slightly gripping? because while accelerating quickly it gets up to 5000rpm and usually when it does that it gives a kick or a jump now it is a smoother shift and picks up speed easier like it resists less, the tires are fine, and ive got a little bit of a timing belt squeek anyone got anyideas on what the squeek or odd **** could be? maybe over heatred tranny fluid...

Anyways I quit speeding..and wrecklessness...atleast right now i do..

Most of that didn't make sense.

It sounds as if part of the timing belt has a mouse on it because it sounds like it only makes the sound once a certain part of the belt has passed by..its hard to describe..

My car started to make squeeky noises (like what you described) a few months after I got it, it would squeak real bad when I started the car in the mornings, or after about 12 hours of sitting, and it would go away after I drove about a mile. Over a month, this noise was coming from the car, and was driving me nuts. Well, one night I was coming home from my girlfriends house (ex now) at 3:00 a.m. after a movie. On my way down her long hill to highway 9, my car stalled, and everything when off (all electronics) and I lost my lights, doing bout 50 mph. I hit my brakes, but damn it was hard without the power assistance. After I stopped, I was wondering what happend. I called my gf, but she had gone to bed, so I sat there, think'in if I was gonna be sleepin in my car that night. Reluctantly, I remembered I had some trouble starting it earlier that week after I installed my deck and amp. I recalled my dad said to compression start the car. So I thought, wtf does that mean, and I came to the conclution that its gotta be a technique to turn the engine. Being on that hill made it real easy. I just released my hand brake, put it in first gear with the clutch in and started rolling, then I dropped the clutch while turning the ignition, and bam, I was roll'in. I realized that I didnt have much power (kept trying to die) so I was reving all the way home (bout 15 miles) and I felt bad because I drove mostly along neighborhood roads. I couldnt even have my lights on while coming down the highway without dying. (dont worry, I was on the highway with no one else for about 300 feet before my turn. Replaced the alternator 4 days later.

--> In a nut shell: Check your alternator, could be a suspect, and you dont want to be caught off guard! It was $105 for my car (95 protege LX). Found that my old alternator's bearing were bad, and not turning whatever it is in there. afterwards, everything was real bright inside, probably because the battery wasnt drained and the alternator was putting out a steady 14.5 volts.
