21 die in Chicago Club...

This morning a tragic incident at the E-2 club in Chicago left quite a many dead and many more injured.

Here is a MSNBC article which doesn't really do what happened justice: http://www.msnbc.com/news/873861.asp?0cv=CB10

From eyewitness reports I listened to on the radio, the facts were a little different. According to people at the scene, two girls started fighting about a guy, a lot of people being drunk at the time made this into a even larger event, so the security staff started spraying pepper spray, even though some sources state mace. The manager of the club decided to put in on lock down thinking the security staff could handle the riot and prevent it from getting out onto the street. Keep in mind, this two story club can legally hold a capacity of 800 people, it was reported that 1500 people were at the club that night, you could barley move. When the pepper spray was sprayed, people started running for the exits, many got trampled and died or were injured in that fashion. Almost all doors were closed, and fire fighters were reluctant to break open glass doors to let the crowd out. That is what people at the event have stated this morning.

This is a tragic loss of life, at something as trivial as a presidents day party at a club. It is very sad to wake up to these news, especially since this could have never happened if the club was ran according to regulation.

Let us have a moment of silence for the deceased at this event.

Yeah I heard about that this morning

Truthfully sad.

I see a BIG investigation into the the abuse of power by the police, and a lot of law suites.

But was it the bouncers (security staff) or the police that used pepper spray???

Very scary to hear about that......

As far as what they said today, the security staff used the spary, the police didn't get there till after lock down.

Another version of the story according to the security staff, drunk clubers knocked down the bouncers and stole the pepper spray and sprayed it, that theory was quickly shut down. They are trying to do anything to avoid getting law suites.

Had that happen to me at a Marti-gras party last year. I was at a place called the boxcar in Kearney Nebraska watching my buddies band play. There was only one way in and out of that club. The back door was supposed to be closed. There were about 1200 at this party. I was by the back door talking to a couple of girls when everybody started running around like idiots. I opened the back door and told the girls to meet us out front, and went back in to find a couple of buddies that I rode with. I got to the middle of the place to see a big splotch of red stuff all over the opposite wall. I freaked a little thinking somebody got shot, but then it hit me. All of the sudden I couldn't breath, almost like my lungs were frozen. I saw my friend coming up to me with his shirt over his face. For some stupid reason all I said was "I can't breath." He just told me it's pepper spray and that we had to get out of there. We couldn't get out quick enough, for the next ten minutes, police were checking people as they came out of the door. So I was in there yacking all over the floor for about five minutes. We finally got out and just went home, this was one of the worst experiences of my life. BTW. My friend still gives me crap about saying "I can't breath" when everyone was running around with their shirts over their face.
