2004 focus svt

Did anyone happen to read the little article in the latest Motor Trend about the '04 SVT Focus? Supposedly it is going to be using a 2.0L mazda engine (FP-DE i'm guessing) with a turbo, making 224hp! If this is true, then imagine what us 3rd gen. owners can do with our cars! I can't wait to find out how Ford did it.

Wouldn't it make sense for the new svt focus to be using the 2.3l that the Focus and Protege will be using that year to make 224hp? If not, the focus is going to have to use a new tranny for that kind of power(if they were to use the 2.0l). Could be promising though. Maybe the new MSP?

No the article said the SVT will use a turbocharged 2.0L. The base model fcus will get the new 2.3L engine.

Interesting. I'll have to read the article if it's on the website. Like I said, that's a lot of power from the 2.0, but I guess the tranny is really the weakest point. How much do you want to bet there will be a 6-speed developed to mate to the 2.0l? The SVT uses one now, although I'm not sure how 'useful' it is. It's a good selling point regardless. Could prove to be interesting.

Yes, I find this very interesting. I'm curious to see what the hell ford did to make that kind of power out of our engine. I'm going to the North American International Auto Show this weekend, maybe I can get some answers from someone then.

The engine in question is the Mazda MZR with turbo. This engine has been under turbo development with Cosworth for some time now.

Tranny? I'm sure the new 6-speed will be adapted for the MZR.

The new SVT will be sweet, but I think I'll wait for that engine to show up in the next Mazdaspeed3... hopefully with 4WD.

I thought the MZ series engines were in the new mazda six, and it's the 2.3l, correct?

Is the '04 SVT going to be any way related to the awesome RS model in UK/Europe? Because that has a turbo engine by Cosworth probably ...

From what I understand, the SVT and the Cosworth are going to be released as 2 different models in the US.

ok, so did we come up with a verdict here?

Is it the same basic engine as we have in our protege's?

The 2.0 224hp is a Cosworth. The 170hp is the engine that it has now, SVT.

I'm not sure is the Cosworth (RS) will make to this side of the pond.

I don't know much about this, as it's been noted the 2.0 will be turbocharged. The WRX -- 2.0 liter turbo, 227(?) horsepower. The rest of subarus? 2.5 liter, but 165 horsepower.

So it's not all displacement. However it's just been announced that the WRX STi is coming to the U.S., with the 2.5L turbo! 300hp!! Sorry getting off topic

Yeah, I read about it in my new Sport Compact. Its called the M2 WRX. They said it would put the New Mustang Cobra to shame.

The turbo is boosted to 16psi 0-60 in 4.4secs and1/4 mile in 12.9 secs, which is exactly the same as the Cobra. It looks SOOOOOO sweet to
