Big Meet who is going?

Mid-Atlantic Protege Picnic IV

When? : Saturday, September 28th, 2002. Starting at 10am and going until sunset (around 5pm last year). You don't have to stay the whole time. We will probably eat at around 12-1pm.

What? : The activities will include meeting other Protege owners, sharing ideas and stories and of course, the barbeque!! Also first official meet of the D.C. Chapter of the Protege Network. We will discuss membership and hammer out all of the details, as well as take pictures for the members profile section of the website as well as gather contact information from members. The park is pretty nice, of course you can walk around if you like and maybe even go fishing!

Where? : Leesylvania State park in Virginia. It is about 20 minutes south of I-495. about 3 minutes off of I-95. Click here to see the official webpage for the State park
Who? : All Mazda Owners are welcome to attend! Whether you have a Protege or not You do not have to be interested in joining the Protege Network club to come, this meet is open to anyone!

Scroll Down for a list of attendee's!!! Fill out the form at the bottom of the page to add yourself to the list. It will be emailed to my account and I'll edit it in there within a couple of days. Please be as complete as possible. It is better for others to get in touch with you if you or they are lost, as well as planning caravans to drive together to the meet (its better to travel in packs )
Cost? : Cost for admission / parking to the park is $4. We paid $99 to rent the pavilion on the park grounds. We are going to split that cost among all atendee's. As for food costs, read below. Shouldn't cost more than $15 for everything.
What about the food? : At the last MAPP, we had a few people who brought nothing at all. But despite that, we still had an overabundance of food, and much of it got taken home at the end of the meet. This year, we are considering just having one or two people buying all of the food beforehand, and splitting the cost of the food among everyone for simplicity.

However, it would still be cool if we had some diverse dishes people can bring. We will most likely exclude charging people who bring a special dish. That way we can avoid having a plain as can be Barbeque.

As for what kind of food will be provided. We will buy hamburger patties, hotdogs, and buns. Plates and cups, and drink either canned soda or 2-liter bottles of soda w/cups and ice. Bags of chips and the usual condiments will also be provided.

How to get there? : To get complete directions on how to get there, click here and click on "Directions to this location", type your address and there you go! The address to the park is: 2001 Daniel K Ludwig Drive , Woodbridge, VA 22191-4554.

Once on the park, go to Pavilion #2 (aka Fairfax Landing Shelter). To see the park map from their website, click here.

More information / Rules :

1. Bring some money! I doubt it will cost more than $15 per person inlcuding park entrance fees, food costs and pavilion rental costs. No one is sponsoring this meet, and all of these costs are coming out of our pocket.

2. We do this RAIN OR SHINE. The shelter is very large for a smaller group like ours -- it accomadates 100 people and has something like 12 tables. It has its own grille and electrical outlets!!

3. Alcohol -- is not allowed. However, if you can keep from becoming belligerent, and being caught by park authorities, bringing some beer is fine by us AS LONG as you keep a low profile, and don't get us in trouble.

OK, 'nuff ground rules. Now a few tips:

-Look at the pictures from MAPP II to get an idea of how it will look. I believe we are renting the same pavilion as last year, so that is basically how it will look.

-You should probably write down a couple of people's cell phone numbers in case you get lost on your way there or something comes up.

-Coming in caravans of Proteges is highly recommended. This park isn't hard to find by any means, but it is still easier to get lost with a bunch of people, rather than alone .

I usually go to MAPP, even though it's a 350+ mile drive for me from Connecticut..

I haven't decided if I'll be able to make it to this MAPP yet, but I probably will since I always do
